Deep Research

Often when female authors make statements on politics, the media tend to portray the ramblings as if they had emanated from THE burning bush.

The following from The Guardian, Review, Saturday, April 5, 2008. And it will happen to you.

It dealt with Joan Didion’s memoir and while all of that is just lovely, is not relevant to the point I did think was of some interest to me.

Within the article is the following profound revelation:
The article was written by one, David Hare and Mr. Hare informed readers that he
"had written her a heartfelt fan letter, out of the blue, one author to
another, about her collection of essays Political Fictions. She had answered
with what I would now recognise as a characteristically courteous and thoughtful
reply. It was self-evident to the most casual reader that by keeping herself
away from any contact with Washington, Joan was able to define the characters
and intentions of the leading imperial figures with far more insight than any
Beltway insider. Her methods were deep research, intuition and watching
television. "

The portion I found interesting was the portion about how Didion wrote what she did about political figures: Her methods were deep research, intuition and watching television.

Good lord. She should be involved in Oliver Stone's production of 'W' ... most certainly, everything you need to know you can find on television or from intuition. As for DEEP RESEARCH ... what a catch-all. Just in case television didn't impress you.

Prediction now, even before filming begins on 'W' ... it will TANK. Ollie, I hope you have your next project signed and dotted and with no way out for the banks and studio because after this one, you will be lucky to get a ticket to the Oscars on the balcony.
