Austria: Serious Problems

Memories of Fritzl.  It is just ... unspeakable.  How.  A culture so closed off that it could enable people like this.  Neighbors so oblivious.  A community devoid of community.  Family and friends ... absent.  I don't understand.

The fact Fritzl received life in prison.  Not enough.  This guy, should fall head first into a trash truck, or perhaps he should be thrown into a 4x4x50 ft deep hole.

Austrian police have arrested an 85-year-old man suspected of imprisoning and sexually abusing his two daughters for more than 40 years.

Police say both women, now aged 53 and 45, suffer psychiatric problems.

Investigators claim he kept his daughters locked in a small kitchen with only a narrow wooden bench to sleep on. They say he beat them systematically at the house in the village of St Peter am Hart from 1970 until May of this year.

Police chief Martin Plumberger said: ‘The family always lived in seclusion. The mother and the daughters never said anything probably because of physical and emotional pressure from the father.’

There are echoes of two similar Austrian cases in recent years; Josef Fritzl, who was jailed for life after fathering seven children with his incarcerated daughter, and schoolgirl Natascha Kampusch who was imprisoned for eight years in a basement.

Austria incest case
Dungeon dad Josef Fritzl also raped wife's sister
Thursday, 31 July , 2008, 11:30

The revelation came to surface after diaries were found in the monster’s house, according to police sources.

Fritzl locked his daughter Elisabeth in a secret cellar at his home in Amstetten, Austria, for 24 years ago and subjected her to brutal rapes. She bore him seven children, reports the Mirror.

Elisabeth, now 42, was freed in April after her daughter Kerstin, 19, became dangerously ill and was taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, the devil’s wife Rosemarie, 69, said she will divorce him after his trial in the autumn.
She joined Elisabeth and her children in a psychiatric clinic after his arrest but moved out after a rift developed.

Prosecutors add slavery to Fritzl's chargesheet

Josef Fritzl, the man who held his daughter captive in a cellar for 24 years and fathered seven children with her, may be charged with slavery, prosecutors in Austria said today.

The authorities hope to have a series of formal charges ready by the end of September and a trial would begin in December, according to Gerhard Sedlacek, the prosecutor in the town of St Poelten, where Fritzl is being held.

Investigators said Fritzl confessed to keeping his daughter Elisabeth captive in an underground cellar at his home in Amstetten when she was 18, sexually abusing her and fathering seven children with her, including one whose body he allegedly tossed into a furnace.

DNA tests confirmed he is the surviving children's biological father. Three of the children were confined to the underground cellar, deprived of natural light and room to move freely, and three children were raised above ground by Fritzl and his wife, Rosemarie.

Frizl, 73, is being held in pre-trial detention in St Poelten, 50 miles west of the capital, Vienna. His alleged victims, including Elisabeth, 42, are receiving treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

The case came to light in April after one of the children, Kerstin, 19, became seriously ill and was taken to hospital. Unable to find any medical records, the police and hospital authorities appealed for the girl's mother to come forward.

Fritzl told staff that his daughter had been unable to look after Kerstin and had left her in front of his house. However, he later released Elisabeth, who explained what had happened to the police.

Kerstin was reunited with her family after coming out of a coma and is expected to make a full recovery.

The 69-year-old, who claims she knew nothing of her husband's 24-year incarceration of her daughter in a cellar under their house, says she is another of Fritzl's victims.

She brought up three of the seven children Fritzl fathered by his captive daughter Elisabeth at the couple's home in Amstetten, Austria, believing his story that Elisabeth had dumped them before joining a cult.

Fritzl Family: Testifying, a baby, a secret move and aging cream

(I believe at this time, the family should be left alone. Prurient interest or the macabre, should be left aside in order that the family may live their lives as best as is possible)

Josef Fritzl: Daughter Elisabeth and children moved to secret location
By Ben Farmer
Last Updated: 5:09PM BST 16/07/2008

The daughter of Josef Fritzl, who was kept imprisoned in a cellar by her father for 24 years, has been moved to a secret location to continue her recovery.

Elizabeth Fritzl, 42, who was forced to bear seven children by her father, had been receiving treatment in a mental health clinic since her release in April.

Tight security around the Amstetten Mauer clinic in Austria had been costing the local council several thousand pounds a day to prevent journalists from approaching or photographing the family.

It has now been reported the family were moved from the clinic three weeks ago after doctors decided it was not a suitable place for healthy children.

Miss Fritzl and her children Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18, Lisa, 15, Monika, 14, Alexander 12, and Felix, five, as well as their grandmother, Fritzl's wife Rosemarie, 68, are said to have improved rapidly in recent weeks.

One source at the clinic said: "When they came here it was hard even for senior staff to get in – security was so tight. You had to show an identity card and wait to be searched. Now it's all back to normal now that they have gone."

Dr Bernhard Kepplinger who is in charge of the section of the clinic caring for the family said: "There were five security guards here a day. They were paid for by the local government. There were also police patrols here."

Asked if Elisabeth was still on the hospital site with her family, he said: "I am not allowed to disclose personal details."

The family lawyer, Dr Christoph Herbst, also refused to discuss the family's whereabouts. He said: "I am not allowed to say where they are – I can neither confirm nor deny whether they are at Amstetten Mauer."

Miss Fritzl is continuing to give videotaped evidence against her father in closed session with a judge ahead of a trial in the Autumn.

Josef Fritzl has been complaining of aches and pains while in prison and has asked his doctor for anti-ageing face cream.

The 73-year-old Austrian, who locked his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathered her seven children, has been in custody since the self-made dungeon under his home was discovered in April.

Officials at St Poelten Prison told how the Fritzl had complained of a range of ailments, including chest pains and stomach ache.

But when he is well, Fritzl spends much of his time in his cell, scouring newspaper reports for details of his case.

Daughter accuses incest dad for 'murdering her baby'
Friday, 18 July , 2008, 11:42

London: Elisabeth Fritzl has finally broken her silence and accused her incest dad Josef Fritzl for murdering her baby.

During four days of testimony, the 42-year-old incest victim told prosecutors that her evil dad was responsible for three-day-old Michael’s death.

Will Austrian Incest Children Testify?
Kids of accused sadist Josef Fritzel may not take stand.

By CHRISTEL KUCHARZ and SUSAN DONALDSON JAMES
July 18, 2008 —

Three-day-old Michael who police call a child of incest and abuse had an undignified funeral: His little body was tossed into a furnace in the dark cellar where he and his three siblings had been imprisoned along with their mother for their entire lives.

Police say the infant was one of seven children Austrian Josef Fritzl told them he fathered through incest with his own daughter. Michael's death is now the centerpiece of the trial of the man who imprisoned his daughter for 24 years and repeatedly raped and tortured her. Among the issues still to be decided, is if any of the surviving children will take the stand.

Three of Michael's surviving siblings were confined to the dungeon-like bunker while three others lived as a second family upstairs with Fritzl and his wife.

Prosecutors are investigating to determine whether Fritzl murdered the baby in the basement of his home in the quiet village of Amstetten, Austria. If convicted, Fritzl himself could be locked away for life.

Gerhard Sedlacek, spokesman for the prosecution, told ABCNews.com that his team has hired a "child death specialist" who is preparing an expert opinion. He said conditions in the windowless basement may have contributed to the death of the baby.

More Fritzl Family - June 17. 2 articles

I am plagued by this story - in reviewing the numbers of articles done. Why we (as a collective we), are so enthralled by evil. I suppose it is possible that other Fritzl's are out there, reading the many newspapers online that deal with the Frtizl family, and telling themselves that they would never make that mistake, or Ondrej Mauerova and what his family did to him (ate parts of him), or any of the other evil behavior that goes on around us.

Often we will call it sick as if pills will fix the perpetrators. If someone rapes a twelve year old and burns her and buries her in a hole filled with crabs - what will we call that - sick? Then pills should cure him. But they won't. He (the perpetrator), like the family of Ondrej Mauerova and Josef Fritzl - all qualify as evil.

We can set aside demons and Satan, but they are regardless of ones position on religion - evil.

So why do we search out these stories, and there are thousands of updates on Fritzl and others (Ondrej Mauerova) available online. Why such an audience? And how does one become an evil-doer? What makes you do it? Do they realize what they do repulses 6 billion people on earth and nearly that many would give anything to rip their hearts out and stomp on them.

What the story of Ondrej Mauerova and Fritzl (and others) is we do find the perpetrators, eventually. They will die either at the hands of the state or their bunk buddy in prison.

In any case - justice will be served, and it won't be on a plate.

It doesn't answer though, why we are so fascinated by evil.

Josef Fritzl's oldest child reunited with family - and keen to go to a Robbie Williams concert

Bojan Pancevski in Amstetten

The oldest child that Josef Fritzl fathered by his own daughter is on the road to recovery, has been reunited with her family and the first thing she asked for after a lifetime of being held in a dank cellar was to go to a Robbie Williams concert.

Doctors treating the family have described the “emotional reunion” as well as the dramatic moment when the 19-year-old awakened after more than a month in a coma.

Albert Reiter, who has been in charge of Ms Fritzl’s treatment, told a press conference on Tuesday: “She opened her eyes for the first time at 9am on May 15 and slowly started showing signs of emotional reaction. We smiled at her and she smiled back. Later I said ‘Hi’ to her and she replied with a ‘Hello’. It was an intensely dramatic moment.

“I am especially proud that [she] could walk the distance to her new residence and into her new life,” Dr Reiter added. Ms Fritzl saw daylight for the first time in her life after she awakened in the intensive care ward of the Amstetten regional hospital. According to Dr Reiter, the first wish that she expressed to her carers was to go on a boat trip and to attend a Robbie Williams concert.

Josef Fritzl to see 'dungeon family' for first time since arrest
By Andreas Sam in Vienna

Last Updated: 1:44AM BST 09/06/2008

Josef Fritzl is to see his "dungeon family" for the first time since his arrest, when his daughter presents evidence on her 24-year ordeal of sex abuse and imprisonment.

Elisabeth Fritzl, 42, will be questioned by a judge, prosecutors and her father's lawyer in a court session which will be beamed to her father via video link.

Doctors treating Elisabeth Fritzl and her children have confirmed that following a month of therapy her condition has improved drastically and that she would be able to give evidence, although it is possible that a psychiatrist would be present during the questioning, which is due to happen in early July.

Her children, aged five to 19, will also be questioned at a later stage.

Fritzl Family does not take the cake

You cannot get beyond the Fritzl family of secrets and while Austria has had to endure several such cases - Fritzl didn't eat his children, and more generally, Europe - its share of the weird and weirder, when we thought it could not get more bizarre or sick, it just did ...

[Of course, one incident of 300 million people does not make an example, it is an anomaly, BUT maybe not quite so. Add up all the Fritzl family, child torture kidnapping, pedophile rings, human slave rings and the image you get is still just a slight percentage of a percent, but ... when these stupid bloody fools make over generalizations about the US based on the actions of a handful of people or events - then people who eat each other clearly are the standard bearer of European society, or can rightly be considered such, being fair of course.]

BOY EATEN BY FAMILY

A BOY of seven was kept chained in a cellar by his cannibal family — as they ATE parts of him.
Sobbing Ondrej Mauerova was rescued alive when a neighbour’s TV picked up footage from a camera filming his agony.

He had been partially skinned after monstrous mum Klara, 31, caged him for months while relatives who were also in a sick cult feasted on his raw flesh, an appalled judge heard yesterday.
The mum wept in a Czech court as her evil was exposed in a case echoing the Fritzl dungeon horror in Austria.

Ondrej and his helpless brother Jakub, nine, were kept in cages or handcuffed to tables as they were ritually TORTURED, BURNT and WHIPPED with belts.

I suppose to be very civilized, the Euros will put them in a hospital and give them meds and let them attend group meetings for cannibals. It is beyond belief the Fritzl story and this one just blows what was left of reality out the window.

Where are people from and what do they search for - Webpages

Of all the people who find themselves reading these missives, one stands out - Libya, Tripoli Tarabulus. There is another - Malta that was interesting. I had an Iran log on and read them. Japan, Indonesia, Thailand ...

The point of this exercise in listing a few countries is content.

I know for a fact that a few of the above listed prevent certain content from being accessed within their respective country.

I begin to wonder who then, accesses the Internet to find themselves on the various sites, mine specifically.

In the alternative, if the masses are able, which they are not and the evidence is pretty conclusive on this - then they are the dumbest stupid shitheads on planet earth. The truth and facts of everything, all on the Internet, and they continue to live in their despicable little worlds (yes, that is a judgment) believing the dumbest lies every conceived of by man. Then again - so many Americans (and dumber yet, Canadians) wander around believing some of the stupidest shit I have the displeasure of hearing about on a regular basis.

So I am back to - the most interesting access was Libya. Malta and Iran are just as curious I suppose, but Libya! I am impressed.

Addendum: The single most searched for subject - the Fritzl family. An interesting psychological social phenomena that family, and the world's interest in them.

Fritzl Family Update - Euro Games and New Starts

The Fritzl family's football fever
June 20, 2008
Bild.de

The children of incest monster Josef Fritzl (73) are excitedly watching Euro 2008 matches, and Austrian newspaper 'Krone' has reported that football is bringing joy back into the life of the ‘cellar family’.

Elisabeth Fritzl (42) has lived with her children and their grandmother Rosmarie (68) in the Amstetten-Mauer clinic in Austria since being freed from their cellar prison. Every morning she busies herself with making breakfast, helped by clinic staff, and afterwards Rosemarie plays board games with her grandson Felix, while the older children are schooled by private tutors.

The family rest in the afternoon, when the oldest son Stefan (18) especially enjoys playing computer games.

“Lisa, Monika, Stefan, Felix and Alexander are doing very well, considering the circumstances,” said Christoph Herbst, the family's lawyer. “The family are slowly moving towards being prepared for a normal life outside of the Mauer Clinic.”

In the meantime, relatives are allowed to visit them in the clinic, and Elisabeth's sister often comes. “She has children of a similar age, and the clinic becomes a madhouse while the children play together undisturbed for hours.”

One of the most heartwarming moments of the day is when the family gather in front of the TV to watch Euro 2008.

Now Kerstin (19) also sits among them, having recovered from a severe illness contracted during her incest ordeal. She was reunited with her family in June after weeks in a coma.

The Fritzls' Euro joy makes them almost like a normal family. The children throw themselves into celebrating for the winners, but sometimes mother Elisabeth has to put her foot down. After all, they've got school in the morning.

Rosemarie Fritzl visits husband's dungeon
Kate Connolly in Berlin
guardian.co.uk,
Monday June 16, 2008

The wife of Josef Fritzl has visited the dungeon where he kept their daughter imprisoned for 24 years to collect personal items for her daughter and grandchildren, the Austrian authorities said.

Rosemarie Fritzl, 69, received police permission to return to the family home, which is still a crime scene, for the first time since details emerged of the secret family her husband had kept beneath their home.

She arrived at the house late last week, along with a plain-clothed female officer in a red VW Golf. Police who are standing guard round the clock at the house in Amstetten, Austria, opened a gate to let the car through.

Dressed in a pale blue blouse and beige trousers, Fritzl spent around 40 minutes on the property.

She emerged with two suitcases and a large bag full of clothes and toys for her daughter Elisabeth and her six children, all fathered by Josef Fritzl. Rosemarie Fritzl is living with Elisabeth and the children in a specially built apartment in a nearby psychiatric clinic.

Fritzl Family - New Identities

Josef Fritzl's entire family to get new identities

By Andreas Sam and Caroline Gammell

Last Updated: 9:53PM BST 29/05/2008

Every member of Josef Fritzl's family will be given a new identity by the Austrian authorities.

His daughter Elisabeth, who was held captive in a secret cellar for 24 years and bore her father six children, her six adult siblings and mother Rosemarie will all receive new papers.

The new identities are being arranged by Amstetten city council after the family decided not to talk to the media or give interviews about their prolonged ordeal.

Their lawyer Christoph Herbst said: "There have been many offers for interviews but the decision not to go public is final.

"The doctors treating the family are adamant that they need to rest, recover and go on with their therapy rather than be exposed in the public."

Following a series of violent incidents involving reporters and photographers trying to get to the family, hospital authorities have complained that the Fritzls have been "imprisoned for the second time" as they are not allowed to leave the clinic due to the presence of the international press.

Elisabeth Fritzl's six adult siblings, aged 37 to 50, have also been pressured by international media and are understood to be considering a change of identity to avoid public scrutiny.

Daughter of Austrian 'Horror Dad' Josef Fritzl Reportedly Wakes From Coma
Tuesday , May 27, 2008

The 19-year-old daughter of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian “horror dad” accused of imprisoning his daughter for 24 years and fathering her seven children, has woken from a coma, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Kerstin, born to Fritzl and his daughter Elisabeth during her years in captivity, was placed in an artificial coma after she suffered a severe kidney infection and organ failure last month. Doctors have begun the process of slowly waking her up as her condition improves.

Kerstin was freed in April when Fritzl, 73, took her to a hospital after she collapsed in his cellar in Amstetten, Austria.

She began showing signs of life over the weekend, and her family told the Daily Mail she has opened her eyes.

Elisabeth is recovering with her five other children in a psychiatric clinic near the hospital.

“Elisabeth and family are very happy, but they know they mustn't get their hopes up too high,” a source close to the victims told the Daily Mail. “Kerstin's incredibly fragile. She'll be in bed a long time — probably months.”

Albert Reiter, one of the doctors caring for Kerstin, said that one concern is that the infection may have left her with a shortage of oxygen, and resulting brain damage, the Mail reported.

“The medication keeping her in an artificial coma is being slowly reduced,” Reiter told the Daily Mail. “This is the first phase in the process of eventually waking her up. How long this will take is something we cannot say.”

Authorities say Fritzl has confessed to locking up his daughter and repeatedly raping and impregnating her. Investigators say he also told them three of the children were raised in a cellar at his home, three others were brought up above ground and one died in infancy.

Fritzl's alleged double life fell apart when Kerstin was hospitalized with the infection.
Unable to find medical records for the woman, doctors appealed to her mother to come forward. Fritzl accompanied Elisabeth to the hospital on April 26 and was detained after she divulged what had allegedly happened to her.
*****************************************************************

May 26, 2008

(CNN) -- Austrian investigators Monday released more details about the elaborate underground cellar where Josef Fritzl kept his daughter imprisoned for 24 years, along with three of their children.

Investigators believe Fritzl planned to build the cellar as early as 1978, shortly after, according to his daughter, he began raping her at age 11 or 12, said police spokesman Franz Polzer.

The 73-year-old Austrian began building the dungeon as part of an addition to his home that year, and simply added the hidden space -- which was not recorded in any building plans -- Polzer said. It took Fritzl until 1983 to finish the addition, Polzer said.

Investigators recently discovered another door to the dungeon prison, which was blocked by a 500-kilogram (1,100-pound) steel and concrete door that Fritzl probably stopped using when he later constructed an electronic door for a second entrance, Polzer said.

Fritzl, who police believe was the only one with access to the cellar, had to travel through an elaborate maze to get to the prison.

"You would have to open up a total of eight doors, and ... (for the) last door which would go into this space (where the family was imprisoned), you would also have to use electronic opening apparatus," Polzer said.

"We will have to find out perhaps later from now if perhaps there are other spaces we haven't discovered yet, and perhaps maybe there is something else interesting." [What they heck does this mean? And why, after all this time do they not know every square centimeter of that hole in the ground. It is not very big, give someone a case of oxygen, send them down and take photos of every corner, or just as Elizabeth.]

Fritzl was recently arrested and confessed to holding his daughter, Elisabeth, captive in the dungeon under the Fritzl home for decades, repeatedly raping her and fathering seven children -- six of whom survived. Three of the children were adopted by Josef Fritzl and his wife after he concocted the ruse that Elisabeth had left the babies on their doorstep.

The story of the family's imprisonment began to unravel more than two weeks ago, when one of the children still in the dungeon, 19-year-old Kerstin Fritzl, fell seriously ill with convulsions.

The father agreed to take her to a hospital, the first time she was allowed out of the prison where she had spent her entire life with her mother and two brothers.

Dr. Albert Reiter, who is treating Kerstin, said Monday that while her condition is still "grave," it "has improved somewhat."

"She has become more stable, but despite that we have to continue to keep her under sedation and give her respiratory help," Reiter said, noting it is not clear how long she will be kept under sedation.

Elisabeth and her two sons were reunited with her mother, Rosemarie, who police say knew nothing about the basement prison. They were also reunited with the three children that Josef had taken from Elisabeth. The reunited family is living in secluded quarters at a psychiatric clinic, where they are finding a daily routine and adjusting to sunlight -- something the two boys had never seen -- according to the clinic's chief doctor.

"The mother and the smallest child have, in just the last couple of days, increased their sensitivity to light," Dr. Berthold Kepplinger said. "So we have been able to equip them with protective sunglasses."

Five-year-old Felix is "getting more and more lively," Kepplinger said.

"He's fascinated by everything that he sees around him -- the fresh air, the light, and the food -- all of these things are helping them," he said. "Slowly the color of their skin is changing back to a more normal (shade)."

He also said the family members are still getting to know each other and live together as a family.

Kepplinger praised Elisabeth for having provided a daily living routine for her children during their captivity. He said the family is getting into a new routine in which the mother and the grandmother make breakfast for the family, and the children make their beds.

However, he said there is a noticeable difference between the pace of life of the children held in captivity and that of those who grew up in Fritzl's home. He said the mother, Elisabeth, takes breaks and naps several times a day.

The health of the family members is satisfactory and hospital staff have been able to let more and more light into the rooms where the family is staying, Kepplinger said. Kepplinger said the children, after being confined to a small space their entire lives, are finding it increasingly easy to be in larger spaces.

Initially the dungeon where Fritzl held his daughter was only 35 square meters. In 1993, around the time Elisabeth was pregnant with her fourth child, Fritzl decided to add to the dungeon, building another room that increased the entire living space of the family to about 55 square meters.

On Wednesday or Thursday, prosecution authorities will attempt to question Fritzl -- who is no longer talking to police following his initial confession, state prosecutor Gerhard Sedlacek said.

A warden at the St. Poelten jail, where Fritzl is being held, told CNN that Fritzl appears to be doing well, but he is refusing to go on walks outside the building where he is detained.

[So - ask him the questions, if he doesn't answer - shoot him. Contrary to foolishness, it is not humane to keep him alive, it is not civilized, and it does not show you value life - rather, just the opposite. By imprisoning him, you are telling all his victims, and society, that he did such a bad thing we will put him in jail for 15 years. You tell the victim that their life is worth much less than the the sentence imposed.]

The Fritzl family - Tutoring and Life and McDonalds

Elisabeth worked hard to educate children in cellar

May 21, 2008

London, May 21 (ANI): Austrian cellar mum Elisabeth Fritzls lawyer has revealed that she taught her kids math and grammar while incarcerated in her dads dungeon.

Her lawyer, Christoph Herbst told a Channel 4 documentary that the family lives a more or less regular life in the Austrian hospital where they have been kept since Josef Fritzls secret dungeon was discovered.

“They rise at about six or seven in the morning. Then they have breakfast together, they get the breakfast from the hospital…Then they sit together at a large table and talk, discuss and make jokes, the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

“Then everybody does their own thing. They play on the computer, they read books, do some drawings, whatever they want…It’s very amazing to watch the family because they behave like a normal family, Herbst added.

He said: “Elisabeth tried to educate the children in the dungeon. They had lessons, they learned grammar, they learned the language, mathematics.

“So they have been raised very well, they are very well behaved…I think Elisabeth tried to give them a structure and a good life under the circumstances in the dungeon.”

Frtizl children kept in cellar begin school tutoring
May 22, 2008

Berthold Kepplinger said the tutoring began several days ago. He stressed that the family needs privacy to recuperate and urged paparazzi to stop trying to take photos of them. “This madness has to end,” he said.

Earlier this week, a security guard was injured in a tussle with a photographer. Mr Kepplinger added that the children play computer games, read books and are playing table football.

None of the victims — Elisabeth, her six children and Fritzl’s wife Rosemarie — has been seen in public since the ordeal ended in late April.

Separately, a doctor treating the oldest of Elisabeth’s children, 19-year-old Kerstin, said that the young woman was doing better.

As a result, the medication keeping her in an induced coma, is being slowly reduced, Dr Reiter said. He added that doctors were examining whether to start waking her up.

According to the SUN
Felix Fritzl was thrilled to discover McDonald’s was REAL – after being taken on a secret trip there. The six-year-old – freed from incest dad Josef Fritzl’s dungeon – was told ads he saw on TV for the burger giant were fiction.

Now, how do these people ever lead a life. At best, it will be difficult and painful, with few opportunities. The most likely - complicated, painful, sad, depressing, with fleeting moments of joy.

How. The very first post I did on this - with news of the event, I asked how. I ask it again and quite often during the day, every day - how can people do this. Al Qaida is not as cruel (they are monstrous also, but not for 26 years). How can these things happen so frequently in Austria, Switzerland, Germany ... why and how.

Those questions even more than whether or not there are extra terrestrials, is the question to answer, for humanity cannot fathom the evil that does what he did. He needs to be studied, examined, and then executed.

What Are We Looking For

I do not have any one topic or subject I think trumps any other - but apparently from the traffic, nearly every continent on earth (nine in Africa, five in the Middle East, six in Asia, South Pacific, North and Central and South America, eleven in Europe) the story of Josef Fritzl and his evil is of interest. That story (posts) receives more hits which indicates that the overwhelming issue is not, at this moment, anything else BUT the monster from Austria.

Interesting.

Update on The Monster of Austria - The Thank You Letter

Elisabeth Fritzl thanked the public in a handwritten note, for their support, after her 24-year imprisonment. It was posted on the notice board in the centre of her hometown of Amstetten.

...

A wish-list scrawled in a child's hand yesterday revealed the slow steps towards recovery being made by the freed [children].

Five-year-old Felix Fritzl wrote that he dreams of sleigh rides, playing with other children and running in the meadows.

Stefan wrote: "I miss my sister. Am enjoying freedom and my family. Like the sun, fresh air and nature."

Alexander wrote: "I wish for freedom, power and strength, and the sun. I miss Fire Brigade (an Austrian youth group), school and my sister Kerstin."

Lisa wrote: "Wishes: health, that everything goes well, love, happiness. Misses Kerstin, school, friends, fresh air, Class 1C."

Monika wrote: "Wishes: that Kerstin gets better, lots of love, that everything is soon past. Misses: fire-brigade, music school, friends, school, Kerstin.

Felix wrote: "(Misses:) Sleigh rides, driving in a car, playing ball, swimming. Playing with other children, friendship, running in meadows."

...

In the wake of the Josef Frizl incest scandal that has rocked Austria, the public has been drawn into a veritable vortex of self-recrimination, denial, defensiveness, utter helplessness, and anger at way in which the spectacle has unfolded—shocking even the most callous observers of criminal endeavors.

Austrian father reveals his "addiction" to incest

By Karin Strohecker

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austrian Josef Fritzl said he became addicted to incest with his daughter, who bore him seven children, and had imprisoned her in a cellar to save her from the outside world.

In comments related by his lawyer to weekly magazine News, Fritzl, who locked up Elisabeth in 1984 when she was 18, said he started raping his daughter a year later.

"My drive to have sex with Elisabeth grew stronger and stronger," Fritzl was quoted as saying.
"I knew Elisabeth didn't want me to do what I did to her. I knew that I was hurting her. ... It was like an addiction ... In reality, I wanted children with her."

Elisabeth, 42, spent nearly a quarter of a century in a windowless cell in the basement of Fritzl's house, giving birth to seven of his children, now aged between 19 and 5 years.

Three of the children remained locked up with their mother in the basement and never saw sunlight until their fate was revealed nearly two weeks ago. Elisabeth has told police that Josef started sexually abusing her when she was 11.

Fritzl, who also has seven children with his wife Rosemarie, said he had locked up Elisabeth after she started to "break all the rules" following the onset of puberty.

She went to bars, drank alcohol and smoked, and ran away a couple of times, the 73-year-old said.

"I tried to get her out of that swamp, organized her an apprenticeship to become a waitress.

"I needed to take precautions, I needed to create a place in which I could at some point keep her away from the outside world, by force if necessary."

INESCAPABLE CYCLE

Fritzl said he found himself trapped in a inescapable cycle once he had locked up Elisabeth. He told his wife their daughter had joined a sect.

"I knew all the time, during the whole 24 years, that what I did was not right, that I must be crazy to do something like that," he said, referring to Elisabeth's underground world as his "empire".

"But nonetheless, it became a matter of course for me to lead a second life in the basement of my house."

Fritzl's lawyer, Rudolf Mayer, has said his client should have psychiatric tests to evaluate whether he is fit to stand trial. Mayer said he might ask for a second assessment should the official court opinion not reflect his client's personality.

Fritzl described himself as a man who valued decency and good manners, and said the emphasis on discipline in Nazi times, when he grew up, might have influenced him.

"Nonetheless, I am not the beast the media depicts me as.

"When I went into the bunker, I brought flowers for my daughter, and books and toys for the children, and I watched adventure videos with them while Elisabeth was cooking our favorite dish," he said.

"And then we all sat around the table and ate together."

Fritzl has been remanded in custody in the city of St Poelten. Mayer confirmed to Reuters that Fritzl's comments were authentic.

More on the Fritzl Family and the Monster

Elisabeth Fritzl: I never want to see Josef again

By Charlotte Wilkins

Last updated: 12:32 AM BST 12/05/2008

Elisabeth Fritzl, the woman held captive by her sadistic father for 24 years has spoken about her ordeal with her reunited family and has vowed she never wants to see her father's face again.

REUTERS

In an emotional reunion with her mother, Rosemarie Fritzl, the 42-year-old broke down in tears and said: "I can't believe I'm free – is it really you? I can't believe I'm out. I didn't think I would ever see you again. It's all too much for me. I don't ever want to see him again."

Ms Fritzl was also reunited with the three children that were taken away from her while she was forced to remain in the tiny dungeon with her three other children.

"My babies. You are so beautiful," Elisabeth said as she held them close and stroked their faces.
Elisabeth was drugged and lured into the cellar beneath her family home in Amstetten, Austria, when she was just 18.

Meanwhile her father, Josef Fritzl concocted an elaborate web of lies and convinced his family that she had run away to join a cult.

Her sister Gabriele Helm, 35, also described seeing her sister for the first time in 24 years:
"None of us can believe how normal Elisabeth seems. She is healthy and very chatty and doing very well.

"Every day she gets a bit stronger. I can't say what the family is going through. It's more than anyone can believe. It has devastated us.

"We are working together to support Elisabeth. She is overjoyed to see her children. She told them they were beautiful and she is spending all the time getting to know them."

Her lawyer Christoph Herbst said: "Elisabeth is very happy to be re-discovering the world. She is very keen to go outside and feel the rain on her skin. But it is important for them to adjust slowly.

"For now they just talk to each other. But Elisabeth and her children who lived in the cellar have no concept of time and of the future. Some people who hear the story think Elisabeth is like something from a horror film. But rumours that she has no teeth and cannot talk are not true.
"If you met her you would not realise what she has been through, as she seems just like every normal person.

"She tells her family that all she longs for is a normal life – or as normal a life as they can get. That's her only wish."

Life is also difficult for the three children who were living upstairs because they are now in darkness at the clinic.

Mr Herbst said: "But they are all happy and there is a lot of laughter, which you might not expect. Felix makes everyone laugh. They are teaching him to run because inside the cellar he could not run.

"It is really brilliant how Elisabeth has reacted to the outside world. They are all rather fine. Elisabeth is really an impressive person. She is very strong. She's happy now for the first time."
Prosecutor Gerhard Sedlacek said they were gathering evidence to charge Fritzl with murder – he incinerated a baby who died after being born in the cellar.

The Europeans get quite a few things wrong.

One of those things is their failure to punish criminals.

This monster deserves the death penalty. He does not deserve to live. However, I will concede to his living if we all agree he should be EITHER: A) dropped from a plane into the mountains of Northwest Pakistan with a brand on his forehead 'Rapist and Pedophile' or B) put in prison with prisoners sentenced to life, in a cell with no bars / door.

OR we could find a dungeon - often castles had dungeons and in the dungeon they had a dungeon below the dungeon, usually just a 5x5 hole in pitch black. That would be suitable and every week, Big Bubba takes him out for exercise for an hour or two and then sticks him back in the hole.

Justice.

How??

Without question, these things occur. We need look no further than Texas and the freak show unfolding in the Yearning for Zion compound. It is not so much that the initial act occurred that is so disturbing, rather - that it went on for nearly a quarter of a century.

Portrait of a monster.

How does this happen?

Austrian 'hid daughter in cellar'

A 73-year-old Austrian is under arrest on suspicion of hiding his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering seven children with her, police say.

The existence of the woman, believed missing since 1984 and now 42, emerged after a teenage child fell ill and had to be taken to hospital.

Both the woman and teenage girl are receiving medical treatment and the other children are in care.

A police investigation in Amstetten, Lower Austria Province, is continuing.

The suspect, named only as Josef F, was arrested on suspicion of incest and keeping his daughter in captivity. He has not responded to the charges against him, police say.

One of the children the man allegedly fathered died in infancy, police believe.

Three children, including the 19-year-old, were allegedly kept in the cellar with their mother while the other three reportedly grew up with their grandparents.

DNA tests will be taken to establish whether Josef F was indeed their father.

The alleged crimes came to light after the teenager, named as Kerstin F, was dropped off at the Amstetten hospital last weekend.

Finding Kerstin seriously ill, doctors appealed for her mother, who at that time was assumed to be missing, to come forward to provide more details about her medical history.

Josef F allegedly then released the mother and two other children from the cellar, telling his wife Rosemarie that she had chosen to return home, police say.

It was not immediately clear how police were alerted.

The mother, named as Elisabeth F, has been receiving medical and psychological treatment since being discovered.

She appeared "greatly disturbed" psychologically during questioning and agreed to talk only after authorities assured her that she would no longer have to have contact with her father, and that her children would be taken care of, police added.

The six children are three boys and three girls aged between five and 20.

Police spokesman Franz Polzer told reporters they had been taken to a safe location.

"They are all in psychological care in a secure institution in a clinic here in this area," he said.

"They are being cared for individually - those between 12 and 16 years of age who grew up with their grandparents, and two boys who, when they came out yesterday with their mother, saw the daylight for the first time in their lives."

The police issued a statement giving details of the alleged abuses Elisabeth recounted to them.
She said she had been sexually abused by her father since the age of 11.

Josef allegedly lured her into the cellar of their house in Amstetten on 28 August 1984, drugging and handcuffing her before locking her up.

It was assumed she had disappeared voluntarily when her parents received a letter from her asking them not to search for her.

"Abused continuously during the 24-year-long imprisonment", Elisabeth bore six children while a seventh, one of a set of twins, died soon after birth.

The dead baby was allegedly taken out of the cellar and burnt by Josef.

Elisabeth said Josef had provided her and three of her children, who were locked up along with her, with clothing and food.

His wife Rosemarie had allegedly not been aware of what was going on.

The discovery of another Austrian woman, who was held captive in a cellar by an abductor for more than eight years, gripped the country in 2006.

---------------------
UPDATE:

A series of underground rooms equipped for sleeping and cooking, and with sanitary facilities, lay behind a concealed door, police said.

Josef Fritzl is said to have told his wife, Rosemarie, and local authorities that three babies had been left by Elisabeth on their doorstep, in different years.

Each delivery was accompanied by a letter purportedly signed by Elisabeth Fritzl saying she could not support the child because she already had others to care for.

The trio went to school as normal, seemingly unaware that their mother and three other siblings (a girl of 19, and boys at 18 and five) were trapped underground.

He is said to have told his wife they suddenly re-appeared.

UPDATE: 4/30/08

Yet more clues point to third-party involvement. The door to the dungeon - which had received building permission as a nuclear fallout shelter - weighed 300kg (660lb) and could only have been hinged into position with the help of someone else. Mr Fritzl, moreover, went on several holidays, including at least one three-week stay in Thailand, leaving Elisabeth and her children in the cellar.

******************************************************

So let's recap.

This monster began molesting his 11 year old daughter in 1977. The molestation / rape continued for seven years until she was 18, at which time she was put in the basement and handcuffed and locked up.

The mother of course had NO IDEA for the SEVEN YEARS what was happening.

Then, the monster gets his drugged and handcuffed daughter to write a letter saying she has run away, takes it upstairs and acts surprised when he finds it in the mailbox.

Then she starts having babies.

A few of these babies are taken upstairs and get to live with the grandparents as grandparents. I suspect at least 1 or 2 are female. Good question as to what they had to go through upstairs.

How do you explain to your wife where they are coming from. 'Oh dear, yes, the stork left these on the doorstep and I just had to bring them in to our loving home" "I really wish the stork would stop with these babies, other people are deserving and we are getting quite old to have new babies." "Let me get a shot at that stork and I will ensure it never brings another baby here. We are overcrowded and do not have the money or food to raise any more children."

And the wife obliges.

And someone tipped off the authorities. Who. Why? How???

Imagine how evil this man is to rape his daughter and then molest his daughters from his daughter. And all during this the wife is .... what is she doing. Never going into the basement for 24 years. Never. Childbirth is loud. Babies crying are loud. Children playing can be loud.

This den of evil is closed. I hope they tear the building down.

And for those sick, deviants wherever you may be - be it Australia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Singapore, South Africa - you deserve to spend twenty years with Bubba [Bubba is whatever your worst fear would be in prison] being his playmate. It is not a special love or special thing you are doing that no one else understands (like the freaks in Texas) - universally all 6 billion human beings want to rip out your hearts and shove them down your throat. This Frizl person deserves death and if European justice was 'just' he would get death. Unfortunately it is not 'just' and he will end up in prison for 50 years. Valuing life does not mean keeping these type of beings alive, it means so condemning them that the ultimate sanction is imposed. In the alternative, maybe we just hand you over to bin Laden. Drop you from a plane carrying a twinkie, with the words child molester / pedophile branded on your forehead. That would be justice.
