Guantanamo

(The above two were taken off the internet and I have not properly cited from where, although I do not recall. I have had them for a couple years.)

(Time Magazine)

We hear how terrible it is in Guantanamo Bay - that the poor souls held there are desperate for civil rights, just want to reach out and feel another human being, need a little decency and kindness shown to them.

Of the more than 200 people in Guantanamo Bay, the majority earned their way their by being in the midst of al-qaida camps, al qaida homes, shooting at American soldiers, being found alive after US soldiers raided an al qaida safe house, found running from al qaida safe houses, found to have aided or supported al qaida ...

THEY ARE NOT innocent children.

To those who believe no one should endure what they are forced to endure in the above shown cells ... I would suggest that first you visit a Turkish prison, then stop by a Thai prison, head over to Cambodia and Vietnam and visit their prison systems, try the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysian prisons, then visit a Chinese prison, before heading to Russia and visiting a Russian prison, then going to Romania and Bulgaria and visiting their prison systems, then head to France and visit their prison system, finally checking out the Mexican prison system (if those are not enough, you may pick any one from a list of another 50 or so countries and you will find pretty much the same. No doubt, every one of them have signed the Human Rights Convention.)

What we provide in Guantanamo Bay is superior to anything listed above. Not to compare our prison system to Cambodia, but keep in mind Guantanamo is not a prison for bank robbers and tax frauds. It is a military prison for killers and would-be killers, and admittedly perhaps 1% who are guilty of knowing and not knowing at the same time. I understand that 1%, and believe the fact 99% are held properly is a reasonable condition if it benefits us. Opposition say - these people have been held so long they have nothing further useful to tell us - that isn't the point.

One of these useless sorts, released from prison, leaves for Europe, back to Jordan, in to Iraq, and blows up scores of innocent people. It has nothing to do at some level with what they know - it is the fact they have at their very core, a dream of killing any Westerner, and doing it as painfully as possible. Slaughtering like a pig, would be close enough. Any doubt - watch the half dozen videos posted by al qaida in Iraq showing beheadings. They slaughter.

The cells above are better than any cell in any prison of any country listed above. They take their religious interests into account, their comfort, their personal interests - the food is all halal, and they have multiple menus to choose from. Our standard prisons in the US do not get such a benefit, and before we mention the missing TV - what would they watch? You do not want them watching news of uprisings or news of some al qaida death, or they would revolt in the prison. If you allowed video tape of say Oprah and American Idol, someone would sue on the grounds that it violated their religious beliefs and that would open the door to Al jazeera, which we want to avoid, lest they stage an uprising and kill even more Americans just trying to keep them all safe.

We have been given the donkey and pony show in Congress on hearings held concerning Guantanamo Bay. The poor babies felt like they were unjustly treated and their human rights were not upheld. Congress cried with them and provided kleenex.

Behind bars, a star is born

Zaeef claimed to a reporter that he’d witnessed several instances of Quran abuse. However, a former Afghan detainee who was at Guantánamo said the stories that Zaeef and others spread — such as soldiers stomping on a Quran — were lies.

The hunger strikes were reported around the world. Aid groups and defense lawyers noted them as proof of Guantánamo’s appalling conditions.

Camp officials eventually handed out surgical masks for detainees to hang from the walls of their cells as cradles for their Qurans, to keep them off the floor. Guards were ordered to be quiet during prayers, and orange cones with the letter “P” were placed in corridors during prayer time. Detainees were allowed to wear skullcaps, as prescribed by Islamic tradition. Guards were told never to touch prisoners’ Qurans and to log every allegation of abuse.

Men such as Zaeef responded by growing more assertive. They wanted more than small wins.
Biding his time

In June 2005, Guantánamo detainees staged their biggest hunger strike yet: Up to 100 men refused to eat.

Prison authorities gathered detainee leaders and discussed their demands. Zaeef represented Afghans and Pakistanis, joining detainee representatives from several other nations.

After consulting detainees in the cellblocks, Zaeef and the other leaders produced a list of demands that included Geneva Conventions rights, court trials, less time in isolation cells, better treatment from the guards and so on.

However, the meetings among the detainees broke down before negotiations with U.S. authorities could proceed, Zaeef said, because the detainees worried that the Americans were eavesdropping to find out who their cellblock leaders were. Zaeef was released that September.

He has been home for more than two years, under house arrest by the Afghan government, which relaxes and tightens its control according to his public remarks. Calling on a radio program for the Taliban to regain at least part of their ruling power, for instance, meant that he wasn’t permitted to receive visitors for several weeks.

Two guards usually stand out front, next to a faded red door and a sentry house.
Asked whether his time at Guantánamo had changed him, Zaeef said it only convinced him further that America was the enemy of Islam.

He receives regular reports about the Taliban’s brutal campaign to reassert itself in southern Afghanistan.

So, as he did for more than 1,000 days in Guantánamo, he sits and waits for his next chance at power.

***************************************************************

What fucking fools. He sits and waits for his next chance at power ... which means in not so nice terms - the guards outside his home will have to be slaughtered as he is aided in escaping, and given the chance to rejoin the evil one under a rock in killing more innocent people from Americans in Afghanistan, or any Afghan, to Americans in the US. In order for him to get power means someone has to die, a lot of people in this case. He needs to just die is what needs to happen to him, and it will not in any way, violate our principles of freedom or liberty - for we would be freeing and liberating many people who would otherwise die if he is not killed.
