American Donations 2006

Admittedly, two years behind, but, probably very close to a reasonable representation of 2008;

Americans gave nearly $300 billion to charitable causes in 2006.

1% more than 2005.

Of the $300 billion:
$97 billion went to religious organizations
$41 billion to education

Of the $97 billion given to religious, a significant amount would be passed along to individuals and communities.

******************

Americans gave twice as much as the next most charitable country.
