Honor Killings: The Story Continues

The weakness of liberalism, of Western Civilization with our enlightenment is - we believe everyone is rational, all actions are rational, God is dead, Satan doesn't exist and man is his own god, is reasonable and logical - and consequently, we cannot fathom how this evil is allowed to exist, let alone grow in our cultures.

Until we recognize the dangers, we will continue to lose.

The article is poorly written and thus confusing at times, but in the end, the central idea is - a man kills his wife because she has become too Western. His defense will be - as an honor killing even though Canadian law will not recognize such barbarism.

Parents ‘both so evil’

Brother of woman found dead in submerged car recalls conversation he had with man accused in woman’s death.

The older brother of a woman found dead in a submerged car in Kingston says the man accused of killing her told him roughly two months ago that his sister had “gone very bad.”

Wali Abdali said he spoke to Mohammed Shafi on the telephone about Abdali’s sister, Rona Amir Mohammed, who married Shafi 30 years ago.

“She and the girls were going out without veils,” Abdali told the

Whig-Standard in a telephone interview yesterday from his home in Lyon, France, recounting his conversation with Shafi.

Shafi complained to Abdali that Mohammed and Shafi’s daughters were also wearing skirts instead of pants, short-sleeved tops and they were taking pictures of each other while dressed that way.

“He (Shafi) was upset about all this,” Abdali said, because Shafi, a native of Afghanistan, clung to very strict, old-fashioned views about how women should behave.

The conversation came just about the time Kingston Police allege that a conspiracy was hatched among three members of the Shafi family to murder Mohammed and the three teenage girls she had raised.

Court documents allege that Shafi, his wife, Tooba, and their 18-year-old son, Hamed, conspired to murder three of the couple’s children and Mohammed sometime between May 1 and July 1.

The three are charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of three Shafi sisters, Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, Geeti, 13, and Rona Amir Mohammed, 50.

The victims were found June 30 inside in a car beneath three metres of water at a lock at Kingston Mills.

Kingston Police arrested the accused killers in Montreal on Wednesday.

Mohammed was Shafi’s first wife. He married her in Afghanistan. Her siblings say he took another wife, without divorcing Mohammed, because she could not have children. The relatives say Shafi had refused to allow Mohammed to divorce.

His second wife, Tooba, gave Shafi seven children. The family of 10 moved to Canada two years ago, settling in Montreal. Mohammed was presented as a relative, her marriage to Shafi concealed.

“ I gave him a pretty young woman 30 years ago who was healthy and beautiful and now he’s given her back to me in a box,” said Abdali, 52.

He described Shafi as a “very hard” man who abused Rona Mohammed.

“ Yes, he was a violent man, yes he beat her from time to time,” he said. “ It happened throughout their marriage.”
