Taking state tax and an average of local tax for a combined total of:
#1 - Tennessee - 9.44%
#2 - California - 9.08%
#3 - Arizona - 9.01%
#4 - Louisiana - 8.69%
#5 - Washington - 8.65%
So we are not the highest, but far from average.
On the other end, Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, and Montana all have 0% tax.
Alaska has a 1.1% tax.
