Secretary-General condemns fatal attacks by militants, Israelis
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General condemns the ongoing rocket and mortar attacks by militant groups, including Hamas, from Gaza against crossing points and Israeli civilian targets, which caused the death of an Israeli civilian and four casualties today. He calls on Hamas and other militant groups to cease such acts. He also reminds them that these actions, as well as attacks on crossings, have detrimental implications for the Palestinian civilian population in Gaza.
The Secretary-General also condemns the death of a Palestinian child and the injury of its mother in Gaza as the result of Israeli Air Force (IAF) fire. While recognizing Israel’s right to self-defence, the Secretary-General calls upon Israel to exercise maximum restraint, and reminds the IAF and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of their responsibility to protect civilians under international humanitarian law during military operations.

Why? A moral difference between a government acting to defend itself, and a group acting to terrorize and kill.
Hamas sends on average of ten rockets a day into Israel.
Hamas sends these rockets via a rocket launcher and they whizz through the air until they hit something and blow it up.
When Hamas aims their rocket launchers, they do not aim at the desert (which is plentiful in Gaza), they do not aim at empty streets or empty buildings to make a point - they aim to kill and destroy, to cause fear and death.
When Israel responds to Hamas, it does not intentionally aim to kill any mother or child. Although I have not met any of the Israeli snipers, I am willing to bet that 90% would never shoot a woman and child unless both of them were shooting at him and he would be killed unless he returned fire, and even then, I believe he would try to wound the child.
Hamas would enjoy killing children and women, and for that matter as many civilians as possible, to thrill at their cult of death.
The UN does not recognize a moral, nay, a qualitative difference between the two entities - one a legitimate state seeking to punish individuals who, on average, have sent ten rockets flying into Israel every day for nearly three years, and the other, a blood thirsty cult that worships death and prays that women and children will sacrifice themselves for their cult and who will kill as many innocents as possible in their quest.
UNTIL THEY DO ... they are utterly without purpose, and in fact, dangerous for the safety of the world.
