Six die in blast at Danish Embassy in Islamabad
June 3, 2008. The Times.
At least six people were killed and twenty-seven wounded yesterday in a car bomb attack on the Danish Embassy in Islamabad by suspected Islamic militants, apparently in reprisal for the republication of a blasphemous cartoon in Danish newspapers.

There will be some who say - they had it coming. There will be some who say - they deserve it for offending Islam. There will be some who express anger at the deaths, but remind us that it was the Danish newspaper ads that started it all.
I should remind them - they started the killing. Not the Danes.
In bad taste, disrespectful, hurtful ... but they did not ask to be killed, nor did they commit a crime punishable by death - at least to 4.5 billion people it is not a crime punishable by death - unlike slitting throats or blowing up buses, which are crimes punishable by death.
We are at odds here - either the reasonable and peaceful people who practice Islam stop these murderers, or the West will stop them, but in the process many people will get hurt. The killers will then turn the tables and exclaim with outrage how innocents have been killed and swear vengeance. The problem with this twisted logic is - they began the slaughter.
This is a bad omen.
(One celebrity post attempts to add a sense of levity to a long series of serious posts, and now this one, of death and mayhem that washes away any sense of levity. It will have reprecussions beyond those the murderers had planned. PS: As if I need to add the caveat that not all Muslims support or condone terrorism nor the murder of innocents, but I should include it in case someone is looking for that silly flip of the words. Like - I'm sorry I just stabbed you.)
