Burned in her sleep

MS UROOJ Akbar, 28, said she found herself in an arranged marriage by the age of 22. They had a child. She said that over the years, her husband grew increasingly possessive and abusive.
About three years ago, he sprinkled kerosene on her while she slept and lit it. A picture taken afterwards showed how her face had melted onto her shoulders.

She has not filed a case against her now former husband. She intends to turn to the law to get her daughter back.

This is one case, but a study produced by a women's group in Pakistan, suggests that 1 in 100 women are abused, beaten, or killed by their husbands, and or by family.

Burning is but one method.
