UN Alert. UN Alert ... well, gee ... the UN is always on alert for something. The universe, global warming, tsunamis, wars ... unfortunately not one alert and not one action in over fifty years has saved one life.
Now, UN Alert: 1/4 of world's wheat at risk from new fungus.
Ok, so follow me on this -
- massive switch from corn for food to corn for fuel leading to less corn for food
- switch from food crops to corn crops for fuel, cheaper to produce and more money out the backside
- less rice, less wheat, less corn and more fuel
More people hungry, weaker corn supplies due to poor strains of corn for growing leading to greater strife. Less rice, less corn, more starvation. The UN will have to step in, will offer to step in and take central control - to monitor crop growth to ensure adequate production.
Now comes the threat that 1/4 of the wheat supply will be destroyed by a fungus.
Massive starvation.
Think global warming 5 degree increase. Think world wide tsunami. Think massive 8.9 earthquakes. Think scorching heat, drought, dust bowl. Think all these events at once and the death toll would be less than that from starvation.
