Until recently it was difficult to tell the difference between the Danish and milktoast.
It is the idea of independence and opposition to the social codes I appreciate. They printed cartoons, offensive to many, drawn from the collective memory of that which we know Islam to be or represent, to us or to the world, at this time. The memory or idea was not pulled out of the collective hate hat. It doesn't work that way. I can draw or write or imagine only those things I can imagine or have experienced. That original publishing resulted in the deaths of over a dozen people worldwide and threats of attacks against everyone and everything associated with the cartoons.
THEN in February 2008, they re-published one cartoon, and the fun began, again.
