Why do we even try.

On October 31, 1999, Egypt Air Flight 990 crashed off the coast of New York. It was an intentional act - the co-pilot purposely crashed the plane. In all likelihood, to kill the more than the dozen military officers in the rear of the plane. The evidence was made public, even sent off to Egypt to publish.

The majority of Egyptians polled believe it was Boeings fault, and the US government covered up Boeings responsibility.

In May 2008, I was traveling to London and sat next to a person who, for whatever reason, was on his way to Egypt to assist the Egyptians with a radar system. I mentioned this information as evidence for why we should drop Egypt like a bad habit and let them simmer in their conspiracy theories. He was just about to mention the same thing to me, while we were talking, but told me that no one he had ever met in the Egyptian government/military believed it was anything but an intentional act by the co-pilot to kill everyone on board. The government knew it was the co-pilot, yet they let the masses believe in conspiracies. I asked him, with a strange look on my face - why would they allow their people to believe lies. He informed me that it was easier than telling them the truth. Their attentions were diverted to conspiracies, not the government.

Polls were done about September 11, 2001 and who was behind the events of that day:

Egypt:
16% of the respondents believed al qaida did it
12% said the US government
43% said Israel

Jordan:
11% said al qaida did it
17% said the US government
31% said Israel

Pakistan:
.5% said al qaida did it

Mexico:
33% believe al qaida did it
30% believe the US government did it

There are real moments when I believe we should pull all our military home, build a 30 foot wall across all our borders, secure every entry point to the US, expel every illegal - and let the world sit in shit until it gets abscesses and sores and gets gangrene and dies.

In 1993, Al Ahram claimed Israel was sending fruits laced with poisons into the Palestinian territories and other Arab cities.

In 1995, Al Ahram newspaper, a very respected Arab paper, accused Israel of giving 305 Palestinian youths AIDS. Not 306, not 424, exactly 305! My guess, if they did have AIDS - they were all used by Arafat and he gave it to them and then told them to blame it on the Jews.

Also in 1995, Al Ahram claimed that Jews would kidnap Christian and Moslem babies to use their blood in religious ceremonies.

In 1996, Al Ahram claimed Israeli gum was making respectable Muslim women promiscuous.

No wonder many are ignorant of reality.
