Now the Communists Want Obama

I do not go looking for crap on him, it just falls out of the sky. There is more than we know, but when those who want him elected, refuse to see or tell the story ... well, it gets pushed to the back.

Does it matter that a group called the Decembrists endorsed Obama, included in one of their songs the words "Barack Obama. Alas, Barack Obama. His prophetic luminescence, it will shatter the putrescence and complacency of the bourgeoisie. …" And alas, not to miss the point on the Decembrists - a group of military who were opposed to Czar Nicholas in 1825.

This group, according to a video on Youtube, start their concerts off with the Soviet national anthem.

And we see them hugging and cuddling Barack.

Does it matter? Of course not, unless it does.

.

He Sees Dead People

Or so it would appear from what he says ... but then again, he makes gaffes just like everyone else, in fact, quite a few, it's just that no one pays attention - because they don't care.

ABC News: The Blight is Back, again warning of mass destruction.

Al Qaeda Tape to Call for Use of WMDs
Authorities: New Tape to Urge Use of Weapons of Mass Destruction on Civilians

By PIERRE THOMAS and THERESA COOK

May 27, 2008—

Intelligence and law enforcement sources tell ABC News they are expecting al Qaeda operatives will post a new video on the Internet in the next 24 hours, calling for what one source said is "jihadists to use biological, chemical and nuclear weapons to attack the West."

"There have been several reports that al Qaeda will release a new message calling for the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against civilians," FBI spokesman Richard Kolko told ABC News in an e-mail.

"Although there have been similar messages in the past, the FBI and [Department of Homeland Security] have no intelligence of any specific plot or indication of a threat to the U.S.," the e-mail said. "The FBI and U.S. intelligence community will review the message for any intelligence value."

While there is no evidence of any direct threat, the FBI sent a bulletin to 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the country, out of an abundance of caution.

The expected posting of a new tape comes on the heels of a spate of messages from Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Earlier this month, al Qaeda released an audio message from bin Laden, excoriating the media and countries that are supportive of Israel. The release was timed to coincide with the nation's 60th anniversary and President Bush's trip to the region.

So far this year, four bin Laden tapes have surfaced.

In April, the terror group released audio recordings in which al-Zawahiri answered questions submitted to an online forum several months earlier.

The increasing volume of tapes seems to signal to the law enforcement and intelligence communities that top al Qaeda leadership is comfortable monitoring current events and communicating messages frequently.

Officials have tracked the trend, but FBI director Robert Mueller downplayed the surge of messages during an appearance earlier this month, noting that "there is a difference between al Qaeda's ability to communicate internally and al Qaeda's ability to post a message on the Internet. As we all know, the Internet is so broad. The access is absolutely open that just about anybody can post material on the Internet."

WHY? Why and How.

Just when Austria begins to fade, stupider ideas surface from the minds of some very ill people and you have to wonder ... if these fools were caught, how many weren't. How many children have been bred for sale?????

Vancouver couple arrested for putting baby up for online sale
Just a hoax, says couple

Neal Hall, Canwest News Service Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008

VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver couple have been arrested but will not be charged after posting an Internet ad on Craigslist, offering their seven-day-old baby for $10,000, police said Tuesday.
Vancouver police Const. Tim Fanning said he had never heard of such a thing in his 27 years as a police officer.

Ten police officers worked on the case, he said, tracking the Craigslist posting to a west-end apartment.

"Police knocked at the door and asked if there was a baby in the apartment," Const. Fanning told reporters at a news conference.

He said the 23-year-old mother was found nursing a seven-day-old baby.

Among the four adults in the apartment was the baby's father, also in his 20s. The couple were initially arrested for questioning about the ad. "They said it was just a hoax," Const. Fanning explained.

The father, who placed the ad using a computer found in the apartment, was taken to jail.
Police sent a report to Crown recommending a charge of public mischief, but the Crown didn't feel there was enough evidence to support the charge, he added.

The baby was taken from the couple by a social worker and placed in care, Const. Fanning said.
Last week, authorities in Germany said they were investigating a couple after they offered their eight-month-old son for sale on the Internet auction website EBay.

A number of people had contacted police when they say the posting online offering a baby for a sale because it cried too much. The opening bid was 1 euro ($1.57).

There were no bidders in the auction in the two hours it was posted online. The 23-year-old German woman told police that it was a joke.

Craigslist is an online classified advertising service.

Obamaification of our military - petrifying

Tweedle Dee has a video I have just seen on Youtube. He is explaining his military policy.

Petrifying.

I have linked the video at the bottom of the page above the music groups which is disturbing because I like the music.

Now, just so we don't throwing water all over Bush as Obama does so quickly, Bush within six months of taking office had agreed with Putin to remove all our nuclear weapons from their hair trigger alert system and take them off line. I am not sure what weapons Obama wants to take off line, but Bush didn't negotiate anything to get that - he sat down with Putin and they agreed. Obama would give away the store to get what Bush got for nothing. That's called HARD negotiation!

Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dummer

Obama has less than one term in the Senate. He has no federal expertise. He knows nothing of governmental service or trade and treaties. He knows nothing on anything, and he shows it.

That is fine if you live in the private sector, but not for a presidential candidate.

Change You'll Have to Pay For

FROM TODAY'S WALL STREET JOURNAL ASIA
May 28, 2008

Here's one "change" presidential candidate Barack Obama apparently believes in: higher prices. Witness his letter last week urging President George W. Bush not to submit the U.S.-South Korea free-trade agreement to Congress for ratification.

Mr. Obama's objection, as stated in his letter, is that the deal "would give Korean exports essentially unfettered access to the U.S. market and would eliminate our best opportunity for obtaining genuinely reciprocal market access in one of the world's largest economies." In other words, ordinary American consumers would get too good a deal.

For an idea of how good, look at automobiles, about which Mr. Obama professes particular concern. The free-trade agreement would eliminate America's 2.5% tariff on most Korean car imports. Even better, it would phase out the 25% tariff on pick-ups and light trucks. Overall, the Korean trade deal would boost the U.S. economy by $10 billion to $12 billion.

Mr. Obama thinks this benefit to U.S. consumers isn't worth the risk that South Korea might not live up to its promise to eliminate its own 8% tariff on U.S. autos and cut its bewildering array of nontariff barriers, such as arcane safety standards. This despite the fact that the deal includes enforcement provisions if Korea backtracks.

On the record so far, Mr. Obama is the most protectionist U.S. presidential candidate in decades. In February he inserted a statement opposing the Korean trade deal into the Congressional record only days before securing the endorsement of the powerful Teamsters union. He also opposes the U.S.-Colombia pact, and he has called for rewriting Nafta – unilaterally if Canada and Mexico don't play along. Mr. Obama's economic adviser, Austan Goolsbee, told Canadian officials this was all for primary show, but the candidate is backing himself into a political corner should he win the White House.

Mr. Obama is promising change you can believe in. But on trade, it is closer to the status quo Americans will be paying for.

Campaign says Obama mistaken on Nazi camp

May 27, 2008 2:29 PM (57 mins ago) By CHRISTOPHER WILLS, AP

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Barack Obama's campaign says the candidate made a mistake when he said a great uncle helped liberate the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz during World War II.

Obama said Monday that his uncle was among the first U.S. troops at Auschwitz. But Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet forces.

The campaign said Tuesday that he named the wrong camp. They said it was actually Buchenwald.

Aides said his grandmother's brother, Charlie Payne, helped liberate a Buchenwald sub-camp in April 1945 as part of the 89th Infantry Division.

Critics had been questioning Obama's original comment mentioning Auschwitz.

******************************************************

He has to go back quite far to find anyone who did anything in the military. Sad.

He just goes on with his imaginary world. We can't eat the food we want (PERHAPS SENATOR because instead of planting wheat and rice, farmers are planting ethanol for fuel, thus causing world hunger Senator), sliding all the way over to his comments to the Weslyan graduating class - to shun the world of consumerism and wealth, to depart from the path that leads to making money and instead focus on public service - like he and his wife did ($1million plus a year).

he doesn't lie exactly, he just makes stuff up and because you can't have your hero failing to the same vices you use to attack everyone else, you have to omit his 'gaffes' ... which is different than a lie by ... not much.

Next he can tell us his grandfather knew Patton, fought with Custer, and wanted to save MLK but he was tied up by the KKK and only escaped in time to save a little girl from being run down by a large steamroller. he and Hillary should go on the road with their stories.

Sex abuse by peacekeepers still a problem, says report

A Save the Children report says that efforts to prevent the abuse of children in Haiti, Ivory Coast, and South Sudan are falling short.

By Mike Pflanz Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
from the May 27, 2008 edition

Man, Ivory Coast - Half a year before 12-year-old Elizabeth was raped by 10 United Nations peacekeepers, a gathering of the world's humanitarian agencies hammered out promises to end sexual abuse of children by aid staff.

Much more would be done, promised delegates at the Dec. 2006 conference in New York. Investigations would be faster, punishments harsher, codes of conduct strengthened.
But the findings of an investigation released Tuesday by Save The Children suggest that these commitments are still, largely, words on paper.

Of the 341 children in Haiti, South Sudan, and Ivory Coast who spoke to the British agency during its 12 month investigation, more than half reported cases of being coerced into sex, often in return for the very food or protection aid staff or peacekeepers were there to provide.

A third knew of cases of children who had been raped.

Elizabeth (not her real name) knew nothing of the commitments to stop this exploitation as she walked to her mother's fields with her brother early one June morning last year close to Man, 375 miles northwest of Ivory Coast's commercial capital, Abidjan.

The men with the blue helmets who called to her from behind the sandbags of their camp's guard position, however, should have known.

The United Nations, to whom they were contracted as peacekeepers, has said repeatedly that it drills into its staff and representatives a code of conduct which explicitly forbids sexual interaction with people under 18.

"They called my little brother over and gave him biscuits," she told The Monitor last week in a village close to Man, as she nervously fiddled with the material of her yellow cotton skirt, her eyes downcast.

"I refused to go, but one man came to me and held me .... I could not flee. They were big men. Afterwards, I ran to my village. I was crying all night ...."

The girl who used to be, according to her aunt, "active and playful" is now withdrawn and fearful. She has dropped out of school, too afraid to leave the security of her parents' village.

She freezes at the sight of the white four-wheel-drive vehicles used by the UN and aid agencies who operate in this once war-torn corner of her country.

[...]

In Elizabeth's case, her family reported the rape the next day to the UN peacekeeping office. But no investigation was conducted.

Suggestion for all those useless bits out there who moan on about environmental issues. Go to the SMART CAR webpage, BUT don't click US. Instead, click UK and meander through until you find the mileage!!!

THEN go back and click US, same car, and click/find mileage!!!!!!!!!

Interesting.

(that's all I will do for you, the rest is up to you - but I am left wondering!)

Who Wants to Lose?

I was sent a link to a video about John McCain, called 'The Real McCain'. Part of their advertising includes the following script:

This is truly spectacular: within 24 hours, The Real McCain 2 has skyrocketed to over half a million views! It's the #1 most viewed video on YouTube right now, and it's getting loads of love on Digg as well. These numbers put us right up there with many cable news shows, as you can see from the ratings. The difference between us and them, however, is that we're spreading our message virally through the web. We're also spreading the truth about John McCain.

This incredible feedback clearly indicates that what the general public wants to see (and what the corporate press has failed to show) is an accurate portrayal of McCain. So continue to pass this video along to all of your family, friends, and colleagues. We need to end the mainstream media's love affair with McCain, and we need to end it now!

Frustration is one word that comes to mind. Perhaps we should step back, reassess, and appreciate the fact both sides want to win,and will say whatever it takes, to win.

The TRUTH? Well, is it truth to tell your side of an interpretation of the other side? Even if you believe it is true, is it the TRUTH. Your opinion / interpretation of the opposition candidate - is it TRUE because you believe it, because you manipulate video to make it say what you want it to say, because you will do anything to get your candidate elected. Both sides believe that way, but we the people should understand that the truth is not isolated in the speech or fumbled words, it is located in their plans, bills, actions, deeds, desires, wants ...

What is the title about: The Real McCain: Less Jobs, More War. The Real McCoy is the original from which the Real McCain was derived, a play on words and perfectly acceptable. Less jobs - and where will the jobs go? Republicans take your jobs away and Democrats make jobs is what the statement implies.

More jobs via the government can only happen with BIGGER government. Yet it is the Democrats or at least the extreme left-wing of the party who scream about government that intrudes into your personal lives.

My question - when government is so big and so encompassing, how on earth can it NOT intrude. By its very nature of being so large as to provide the jobs, it would intrude into the personal lives. Government cares, so intrusion isn't so bad, say the far left, unless it has to do with their sex practices. Yet caring is rather subjective isn't it? To save money on insurance premiums, we will force smokers to pay 2x what they currently pay, as an incentive to stop smoking, after all - smoking is bad.

Overweight people - same issue. The government wants to protect you, help you live longer, and to do that, it may need to raise premiums as an incentive to lose the weight and save the money. After all - being very heavy is bad for your health.

Laws regulating radio - to prevent hate speech and encourage civil dialogue - after all, laws are not intended to interfere with free speech, just to prevent hate speech that hurts innocent people.

Government cares - about smoking, obesity, and hate speech. Consequently, laws regulating or preventing bad behavior are ok ... but are they. It is still government intrusion into our personal lives, but for the left-wing, this degree of intrusion is good, but heaven help us if the government wanted to regulate the minimum age a girl could have an abortion. The hysteria that would erupt - the intrusion and violation of a woman's body, not to mention a violation of the 14th Amendment.

We each want to win. Your lunatic beliefs are as dangerous in my opinion as my views are to you. Yet characterizing me as a religious zealot is simplistic and false, just as characterizing you as walking vomit would be inaccurate.

Big government is bad and I do not understand how the left loons cannot understand that for their central thesis in life is free speech and free whatever whenever at whatever time and with whomever they wish ... do you really think that a government that controls weight and smoking in your own home, will not eventually control and dictate who you can and cannot have sex with? You are naive and dangerous if you do not.

So this bigger government will provide jobs by hiring people and will pay these people???? With our tax dollars = higher taxes. Versus - let private enterprise hire and pay for their employees off profits from selling or building or doing what business does. Government doesn't do anything - it contracts with someone to hire people and in the process pays fees, which, to hire millions of people, would amount to tens of millions in fees that would otherwise be used on people.

The Real McCain = less jobs and more war. So what is this more war bit? Under Ronald Reagan we did not get an invasion of El Salvador by December 1982 as Martin Sheen had predicted most assuredly (a speech he gave in Arizona at a college). We actually had less worldwide conflict under Reagan than under Carter. And it was not because Reagan wanted to negotiate for the sake of negotiation. So is that why we would have more war? Because McCain does not believe we should negotiate for the sake of negotiation without conditions? Their simplicity and foolishness is beyond understanding. Why will we have more war? Because McCain said we would be in Iraq for 100 years? Well, we may well be there for fifty years, but before you have an apoplectic fit - it doesn't mean we will fight for fifty years, nor that there will be war, rather - our military may well be in Iraq for fifty years just as we have been in Germany. That explanation is less appealing to the looney left than taking McCain's statement and ignoring reality. The looney-left live in a fantasy world where we do not have war, government gives jobs, and we all live happily-ever-after. Disney.

Don't vote for McCain because of something substantive - you think we should allow illegals in here and we shouldn't have a border. We shouldn't be in Iraq because we are more evil than al qaida. Vote for reasons that make sense, not because of such trifling ignorant and insipid statements as those made by The Real McCain 2, at least you would be honest.

Home of the what

Today, Americans should consider, if only for a moment, the sacrifices that have been made in order that we might live. In order that we might live in freedom, with opportunity, hope, ideals, and liberty, many men and women from our military and intelligence services have given their lives.

For the intellectually dishonest, it is the teacher/ writer/ poet that have provided us the freedom to live out our wildest aspirations. Several would quote Kennedy and his statement on poetry and war. They honestly do not see, and in some ways are so much more dangerous than any enemy we face. They cannot see evil, refuse to acknowledge evil exists outside of the limits of the United States, and when they stretch their imaginations to admit that evil does indeed exist, outside of US actions, it is usually because of US actions that their brand of evil exists. They are hopeless, yet they have control of academia and shape the minds of the young far more than any brainwashing of Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia. They are hopeless, and dangerous.

Evil knows that it exists, although it often colors itself as liberator, and it knows what academia fails to understand - we are at a disadvantage because we refuse to acknowledge its existence. Western Civilization has progressed and become progressive, with little room for such trinkets of old, as evil, good, and bad. That may be our fatal flaw. Hopeless and dangerous.

Instead, evil will work with academia, shape, mold, and concede when needed, to mollify the questioners, and lead them further astray - to create a fantasy world where academics believe that negotiation, or talking actually accomplished its intended goal. They will revise their history, establish academic educational standards for teaching, and control what the young hear - for they know that the war is won with the young, and they must win, or face oblivion. Hopeless and dangerous.

Our freedom is not due to academia, for wisdom is not achieved from sitting at desks, but begins with common sense, a virtue akin to leprosy for academics. Yet today men and women join our military and intelligence services, to serve and protect the American people. They do not join with malice nor indifference, for they reflect you and me in what they have done and wish to do, and most certainly you would question any designation of your intentions as hateful. With each life lost and each battle won, the teacher, and poet is more free to express their acarpous and bombastic arguments opposing any war, than they were before American men, and women joined our military, and intelligence services.

Today we remember and honor the loss, and while many will call it a pyrrhic victory, it is far from that definition of defeat – so many men and women understood that some events are ineluctable, and must be faced, or their families and friends they left behind would face the same evil, on a different day. These men and women, many who would never consider themselves heroes, have fought and many have died serving the highest ideals of freedom, allowing us the opportunity to live out our lives without undo fear and anguish of knocks in the dark, rockets destroying neighborhoods, or our school buses blown up with children aboard.

Pedantic politicians do not make long lasting peace, nor do unilateral treaties with enemies that understand only total and complete victory or death. Our men and women have faced these evils in every battle and war in our nation’s history and they continue to serve, despite the dangerous and feckless ranting of the extreme left - and they will serve, all people who desire freedom, for they protect the ideal of freedom and liberty when they stand and fall for the United States.

We do not find the opportunity anywhere else on earth, and it is not that we took it, for we gave much to possess much, and we do not help mankind by giving, when instead we can help others develop the same opportunities.

Deo volente we will never forget the sacrifices that have afforded us all that we have, and we will not abdicate our responsibility in favor of temporary safety and security.

Things that make you go hmmm, in Canada

Perhaps the oddest story I have read.

Mystery deepens as 4th severed foot found

Fri May 23, 2008 3:34pm EDT

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Another severed human foot has been discovered washed ashore on Canada's Pacific coast, but police are no closer to solving the gruesome mystery.

The foot, still wearing a shoe, was discovered on Thursday on a small uninhabited island south of Vancouver in the Strait of Georgia, and is the fourth discovered in the region in the past 10 months.

The previous cases all involved right feet still in sneakers, and each was found on a different island.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have not said if the latest discovery was a right or left foot.
DNA testing has failed to link the earlier discoveries to any missing person cases.

Billions wasted on UN climate programme

Energy firms routinely abusing carbon offset fund, US studies claim

Billions of pounds are being wasted in paying industries in developing countries to reduce climate change emissions, according to two analyses of the UN’s carbon offsetting programme.

Leading academics and watchdog groups allege that the UN’s main offset fund is being routinely abused by chemical, wind, gas and hydro companies who are claiming emission reduction credits for projects that should not qualify. The result is that no genuine pollution cuts are being made, undermining assurances by the UK government and others that carbon markets are dramatically reducing greenhouse gases, the researchers say.

The criticism centres on the UN’s clean development mechanism (CDM), an international system established by the Kyoto process that allows rich countries to meet emissions targets by funding clean energy projects in developing nations.

Credits from the project are being bought by European companies and governments who are unable to meet their carbon reduction targets.

The market for CDM credits is growing fast. At present it is worth nearly $20bn a year, but this is expected to grow to over $100bn within four years. More than 1,000 projects have so far been approved, and 2,000 more are making their way through the process.

A working paper from two senior Stanford University academics examined more than 3,000 projects applying for or already granted up to $10bn of credits from the UN’s CDM funds over the next four years, and concluded that the majority should not be considered for assistance.

“They would be built anyway,” says David Victor, law professor at the Californian university. “It looks like between one and two thirds of all the total CDM offsets do not represent actual emission cuts.”

Governments consider that CDM is vital to reducing global emissions under the terms of the Kyoto treaty. To earn credits under the mechanism, emission reductions must be in addition to those that would have taken place without the project. But critics argue this “additionality” is impossible to prove and open to abuse. The Stanford paper, by Victor and his colleague Michael Wara, found that nearly every new hydro, wind and natural gas-fired plant expected to be built in China in the next four years is applying for CDM credits, even though it is Chinese policy to encourage these industries.

“Traders are finding ways of gaining credits that they would never have had before. You will never know accurately, but rich countries are clearly overpaying by a massive amount,” said Victor.

A separate study published this week by US watchdog group International Rivers argues that nearly three quarters of all registered CDM projects were complete at the time of approval, suggesting that CDM money was not needed to finance them.

“It would seem clear that a project that is already built cannot need extra income in order to be built,” said Patrick McCully, director of the thinktank in California. “Judging additionality has turned out to be unknowable and unworkable. It can never be proved definitively that if a developer or factory owner did not get offset income they would not build their project.”

Yesterday a spokesman for the CDM in Bonn said the fund was significantly cutting emissions and providing incentives for companies to employ clean technologies: “There is a responsible level of scrutiny. The process is in continual reform. All the projects are vetted independently and are then certified by third parties. There are many checks and balances and we can show how all projects are vetted.”

The UK government last night defended the CDM. “We completely reject any assertions that [it] is fundamentally flawed,” a spokeswoman said. “We’ve worked consistently for and seen improvement in CDM processes over the past few years of its operation. We believe the CDM is essentially transparent and robust, though we will continue to press for the environmental integrity of projects.”

Daughter of Austrian 'Horror Dad' Josef Fritzl Reportedly Wakes From Coma
Tuesday , May 27, 2008

The 19-year-old daughter of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian “horror dad” accused of imprisoning his daughter for 24 years and fathering her seven children, has woken from a coma, The Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Kerstin, born to Fritzl and his daughter Elisabeth during her years in captivity, was placed in an artificial coma after she suffered a severe kidney infection and organ failure last month. Doctors have begun the process of slowly waking her up as her condition improves.

Kerstin was freed in April when Fritzl, 73, took her to a hospital after she collapsed in his cellar in Amstetten, Austria.

She began showing signs of life over the weekend, and her family told the Daily Mail she has opened her eyes.

Elisabeth is recovering with her five other children in a psychiatric clinic near the hospital.

“Elisabeth and family are very happy, but they know they mustn't get their hopes up too high,” a source close to the victims told the Daily Mail. “Kerstin's incredibly fragile. She'll be in bed a long time — probably months.”

Albert Reiter, one of the doctors caring for Kerstin, said that one concern is that the infection may have left her with a shortage of oxygen, and resulting brain damage, the Mail reported.

“The medication keeping her in an artificial coma is being slowly reduced,” Reiter told the Daily Mail. “This is the first phase in the process of eventually waking her up. How long this will take is something we cannot say.”

Authorities say Fritzl has confessed to locking up his daughter and repeatedly raping and impregnating her. Investigators say he also told them three of the children were raised in a cellar at his home, three others were brought up above ground and one died in infancy.

Fritzl's alleged double life fell apart when Kerstin was hospitalized with the infection.
Unable to find medical records for the woman, doctors appealed to her mother to come forward. Fritzl accompanied Elisabeth to the hospital on April 26 and was detained after she divulged what had allegedly happened to her.
*****************************************************************

May 26, 2008

(CNN) -- Austrian investigators Monday released more details about the elaborate underground cellar where Josef Fritzl kept his daughter imprisoned for 24 years, along with three of their children.

Investigators believe Fritzl planned to build the cellar as early as 1978, shortly after, according to his daughter, he began raping her at age 11 or 12, said police spokesman Franz Polzer.

The 73-year-old Austrian began building the dungeon as part of an addition to his home that year, and simply added the hidden space -- which was not recorded in any building plans -- Polzer said. It took Fritzl until 1983 to finish the addition, Polzer said.

Investigators recently discovered another door to the dungeon prison, which was blocked by a 500-kilogram (1,100-pound) steel and concrete door that Fritzl probably stopped using when he later constructed an electronic door for a second entrance, Polzer said.

Fritzl, who police believe was the only one with access to the cellar, had to travel through an elaborate maze to get to the prison.

"You would have to open up a total of eight doors, and ... (for the) last door which would go into this space (where the family was imprisoned), you would also have to use electronic opening apparatus," Polzer said.

"We will have to find out perhaps later from now if perhaps there are other spaces we haven't discovered yet, and perhaps maybe there is something else interesting." [What they heck does this mean? And why, after all this time do they not know every square centimeter of that hole in the ground. It is not very big, give someone a case of oxygen, send them down and take photos of every corner, or just as Elizabeth.]

Fritzl was recently arrested and confessed to holding his daughter, Elisabeth, captive in the dungeon under the Fritzl home for decades, repeatedly raping her and fathering seven children -- six of whom survived. Three of the children were adopted by Josef Fritzl and his wife after he concocted the ruse that Elisabeth had left the babies on their doorstep.

The story of the family's imprisonment began to unravel more than two weeks ago, when one of the children still in the dungeon, 19-year-old Kerstin Fritzl, fell seriously ill with convulsions.

The father agreed to take her to a hospital, the first time she was allowed out of the prison where she had spent her entire life with her mother and two brothers.

Dr. Albert Reiter, who is treating Kerstin, said Monday that while her condition is still "grave," it "has improved somewhat."

"She has become more stable, but despite that we have to continue to keep her under sedation and give her respiratory help," Reiter said, noting it is not clear how long she will be kept under sedation.

Elisabeth and her two sons were reunited with her mother, Rosemarie, who police say knew nothing about the basement prison. They were also reunited with the three children that Josef had taken from Elisabeth. The reunited family is living in secluded quarters at a psychiatric clinic, where they are finding a daily routine and adjusting to sunlight -- something the two boys had never seen -- according to the clinic's chief doctor.

"The mother and the smallest child have, in just the last couple of days, increased their sensitivity to light," Dr. Berthold Kepplinger said. "So we have been able to equip them with protective sunglasses."

Five-year-old Felix is "getting more and more lively," Kepplinger said.

"He's fascinated by everything that he sees around him -- the fresh air, the light, and the food -- all of these things are helping them," he said. "Slowly the color of their skin is changing back to a more normal (shade)."

He also said the family members are still getting to know each other and live together as a family.

Kepplinger praised Elisabeth for having provided a daily living routine for her children during their captivity. He said the family is getting into a new routine in which the mother and the grandmother make breakfast for the family, and the children make their beds.

However, he said there is a noticeable difference between the pace of life of the children held in captivity and that of those who grew up in Fritzl's home. He said the mother, Elisabeth, takes breaks and naps several times a day.

The health of the family members is satisfactory and hospital staff have been able to let more and more light into the rooms where the family is staying, Kepplinger said. Kepplinger said the children, after being confined to a small space their entire lives, are finding it increasingly easy to be in larger spaces.

Initially the dungeon where Fritzl held his daughter was only 35 square meters. In 1993, around the time Elisabeth was pregnant with her fourth child, Fritzl decided to add to the dungeon, building another room that increased the entire living space of the family to about 55 square meters.

On Wednesday or Thursday, prosecution authorities will attempt to question Fritzl -- who is no longer talking to police following his initial confession, state prosecutor Gerhard Sedlacek said.

A warden at the St. Poelten jail, where Fritzl is being held, told CNN that Fritzl appears to be doing well, but he is refusing to go on walks outside the building where he is detained.

[So - ask him the questions, if he doesn't answer - shoot him. Contrary to foolishness, it is not humane to keep him alive, it is not civilized, and it does not show you value life - rather, just the opposite. By imprisoning him, you are telling all his victims, and society, that he did such a bad thing we will put him in jail for 15 years. You tell the victim that their life is worth much less than the the sentence imposed.]

Elisabeth worked hard to educate children in cellar

May 21, 2008

London, May 21 (ANI): Austrian cellar mum Elisabeth Fritzls lawyer has revealed that she taught her kids math and grammar while incarcerated in her dads dungeon.

Her lawyer, Christoph Herbst told a Channel 4 documentary that the family lives a more or less regular life in the Austrian hospital where they have been kept since Josef Fritzls secret dungeon was discovered.

“They rise at about six or seven in the morning. Then they have breakfast together, they get the breakfast from the hospital…Then they sit together at a large table and talk, discuss and make jokes, the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

“Then everybody does their own thing. They play on the computer, they read books, do some drawings, whatever they want…It’s very amazing to watch the family because they behave like a normal family, Herbst added.

He said: “Elisabeth tried to educate the children in the dungeon. They had lessons, they learned grammar, they learned the language, mathematics.

“So they have been raised very well, they are very well behaved…I think Elisabeth tried to give them a structure and a good life under the circumstances in the dungeon.”

Frtizl children kept in cellar begin school tutoring
May 22, 2008

Berthold Kepplinger said the tutoring began several days ago. He stressed that the family needs privacy to recuperate and urged paparazzi to stop trying to take photos of them. “This madness has to end,” he said.

Earlier this week, a security guard was injured in a tussle with a photographer. Mr Kepplinger added that the children play computer games, read books and are playing table football.

None of the victims — Elisabeth, her six children and Fritzl’s wife Rosemarie — has been seen in public since the ordeal ended in late April.

Separately, a doctor treating the oldest of Elisabeth’s children, 19-year-old Kerstin, said that the young woman was doing better.

As a result, the medication keeping her in an induced coma, is being slowly reduced, Dr Reiter said. He added that doctors were examining whether to start waking her up.

According to the SUN
Felix Fritzl was thrilled to discover McDonald’s was REAL – after being taken on a secret trip there. The six-year-old – freed from incest dad Josef Fritzl’s dungeon – was told ads he saw on TV for the burger giant were fiction.

Now, how do these people ever lead a life. At best, it will be difficult and painful, with few opportunities. The most likely - complicated, painful, sad, depressing, with fleeting moments of joy.

How. The very first post I did on this - with news of the event, I asked how. I ask it again and quite often during the day, every day - how can people do this. Al Qaida is not as cruel (they are monstrous also, but not for 26 years). How can these things happen so frequently in Austria, Switzerland, Germany ... why and how.

Those questions even more than whether or not there are extra terrestrials, is the question to answer, for humanity cannot fathom the evil that does what he did. He needs to be studied, examined, and then executed.

Quakes can be triggered from other side of globe: study

May 25 01:33 PM US/Eastern

A major quake such as the one that left at least 60,000 dead in southwestern China this month can trigger other earthquakes half way around the world, according to a study released Sunday.
This unexpected finding could one day help make better predictions about the frequency and intensity of aftershocks, the lead researcher told AFP.

A team of geologists in the United States found that 12 out of 15 major quakes -- registering a magnitude of 7.0 or higher -- since 1990 generated surface waves that set off smaller seismic events in fault systems on distant continents.

The China quake, which measured 8.0 on the Richter scale, was not included in the study, which was published in the British journal Nature Geoscience.

So, if this is true, what fault will the China quake set off, that it has not, at this time, activated??

Botched farm bill embarrasses Democrats

May 22 06:43 PM US/Eastern
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - It was Congress' version of "the dog ate my homework." An entire 34-page section of the farm bill vanished without a trace on its way to becoming law, and red-faced House Democrats gave the reason: No one proofread the parchment it was printed on.

"OK, so we made a mistake," said Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, D-Md., the majority leader. "The bill was not whole."

Why do they hate us -

It is not because we wage war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and yet continue with our lives as if nothing impacts us. Rather, their governments fail to provide for them - no jobs, no future - and when they go off to jihad, their families and communities are impacted, but back in America, they do not face the effects of war.

They are hateful of the US power, yet they desire to live in a system like the US. They desire all we have, our American dream, because their dream just doesn't work, and they are angry.

Senator, that is no reason to apologize to the world. You do not apologize for what we have accomplished. We have chosen not to slice each others throats, blow crap up, or kill by the thousands in the streets - we have chosen to progress, academically, industrially, intellectually - we have chosen not to turn our neighborhoods into shit holes where nothing lives. We have chosen this course, they have chosen their course. They want what we have, they want us to feel their pain.

They want a better life, but their religious offer them only death and their governments offer them silence.

- stop blowing crap up
- stop killing civilians
- stop killing anyone, even if it is to satisfy your sharia. STOP.

- in your elections run candidates who promise you they will change things, and when they don't, unelect them.

It is much simpler than you try to make out. I understand, your argument will be - but the US gives Mubarek $3 billion each year and he stays in power / and or any Arab leader we support ... those are internal issues and billions do not change a vote if everyone votes the other way. Choose candidates who are not Islamists for they offer you the same. The only difference is they are at the top squishing you. Don't always scream hateful slogans when you protest. It irritates 1/2 the planet. Protest peacefully and keep the 'Red Satan' and 'Great Satan' put away. Debate the issues using logic, not the poorly constructed religious arguments we hear so often (it is because it is because someone said it is, and that makes perfect sense to anyone who is rational), because it is neither logical nor rational - only stupid.

You can have what we have, but you must first stop the slaughter of innocents. Second, you must take responsibility for your actions, stop accepting the lies and manipulation Mubarek / other leaders flush down your throats to keep you distracted, accept responsibility for your failures, your lives, and vow to change them in a positive manner.

You are half way there when you understand and appreciate the above steps. Any other choice and you have instead opted for the status quo and more death and slaughter, and hate.

I hope for the sake of five billion people you choose wisely.

- because we "know how to build people's futures."

Still not over Rude people in Anglia

The Bell Inn
The Street
Middleton, Saxmundham

(they are 8 hrs ahead of us in California)

I know I posted it on May 7th or whenever it was I returned, but after reading the NY Times article about Franken, and listening to Olbermann's vitrol, they reminded me of this shirt lifter.

Maybe that is the ticket - Franken, the tosser, and Olbermann - all in a boat with no oars and a slow leak, pulled out a couple miles off from the shore in the North Sea.

I would feel better.

Perhaps if the CIA is engaging in all the activity everyone thinks they are, I should just mention that the guy who runs this bar is al qaeda and it would not be out of the question to pass the info on to MI5. Maybe go in and inspect his menu on Sunday and when he says he doesn't have any fish - have a huge quarry truck outside filled with fish, dump all the fish on him, and then say 'now you do'. Or send him to Guantanamo Bay.

Alas, the CIA and MI5 do not read everything we write nor are they interested so another plan will have to be formulated. I think I will go back to that pub the next time I go over - I will not do any please or thank you, and will wait for his indignant comments, and I will thow in a please when I mention shagging his wife or daughter.

Al Franken - The Jokes on him

What is a joker doing running for the US Senate in Minnesota? It is a state that has some very odd views if their elected officials are any indication (Jesse Ventura). A state comprised until the 1990s of German/Dutch laborers who raised families and worked hard to move up socio-economically - it is still quite odd that a joker like Franken could be considered a possible Senator from the Democratic party.

Looking at the demographics, Republicans would be the odd man out, but still - Franken? You would think that people in Minnesota would have tired of the odd.

Franken, who attempts to malign Norm Coleman every chance he gets - connections to Bush, Cheney, lies someone told at some time, his support for the war in Iraq, his ties to Haliburton, his support for big oil, his voting for the destruction of the planet, and Satan ... all part of the attack pattern. You can't trust Coleman because of: [insert one of the above].

It's easy using the bogeymen of the left: Bush, Cheney, Haliburton, Iraq, lies, oil. Throw them at someone and watch them duck, but what if they have no connection to anything in particular, how should Coleman respond? Pretty much how he does respond, but the lack of an answer only fuels Franken's attack and becomes proof he is in bed with evil.

I love the methodology. So 1950s. In fact, it was during the Cold War that the Supreme Court, in a decision on communist spies/sympathizers said something to the effect that - the fact there is no evidence IS EVIDENCE that there is a conspiracy. However much Franken would like to distance himself from that method of attack, for it was the liberal base that argued, rightly at times, that the logic was deeply mistaken - HE IS USING THE SAME ATTACK against Coleman.

Yet, confront Franken about issues: his failure to pay worker's compensation or carry worker's compensation insurance, and then ignore the twelve letters sent to him regarding a $25,000 fine .... Franken failed to answer.

Franken responds to that issue by saying he had moved from New York and had not known about the letters. Here is a hint at the truth: Find out how many people had control over the letters: Al, his wife, and two assistants. 4 people and two were married to each other. Does his wife not speak to him about $25,000 fines? Is that something so insignificant an amount that they routinely ignore requests to pay? That is what they expect people in Minnesota to believe. OR another theory Franken offers - the two assistants took the mail and destroyed all twelve letters, while his wife was off getting her nails done or doing something more important!! That is exactly the way businesses all work - an assistant controls the business and the owner/proprietor knows nothing about the issue.

Doesn't work this way unless they are so incompetent as to have no control of their money or property. He is passing the buck and ignoring responsibility YET he wants the people of Minnesota to send him to Washington to play with your money and take responsibility - two things he has shown he cannot do.

The people of Minnesota deserve better than Jesse Ventura and Al Franken. Norm Coleman may be a member of the retardican party, but he is not as irresponsible and hateful as Al Franken, and he will not pass the buck.

Clinton, Robert Kennedy, and Keith Olbermann

MSNBC has seen its rating hit the floor and then we have watched as they began digging a hole for future ratings. The numbers prove this point. The question is why does no one watch MSNBC? The answer is in part their journalistic standards, or lack of. They have become a joke. No one takes them seriously and with the exception of Couric on another channel, fares worse, MSNBC as a whole is in the negative. If you exclude those people employed by MSNBC, NBC - you have about a dozen other people across the country who watch.

None of that is the issue, exactly, but indirectly - Keith Olbermann made outrageous and slanderous comments about Bush several days ago. Every malicious innuendo he could pull out of the gutter he did. Every lie, every piece of hate - Olbermann dug it up and threw it at the screen in his attack on Bush. The hate spewing, viscerally obnoxious Olbermann has no problem attacking Bush professionally and personally.

Hillary Clinton was being interviewed and made a statement - her husband and Robert Kennedy were still slugging it out in June, yet some people want her to quit. Kennedy was well on his way to winning the nomination and cinched or nearly so in June, when he was murdered. That is what she meant. Olbermann - did you intend to imply Bush was a killer, a thief, incompetent, and a liar? Perhaps she could have rephrased the statement, just as you should strongly consider doing before you ever open your mouth again and lose another five viewers.

Yet Hillary did make the statement and Olbermann went after her with the same viciousness (or very nearly so) as he did Bush.

His behavior is not acceptable. The hatred and slander he spews in his monologues - exactly what he claims Hillary is appealing to in the video clips - he is likewise appealing to hate and division. Whack jobs do not need an incentive Olbermann, Hinckley didn't need your vitrol to go forward with his attempt. The crazy people act on their own worldly understanding and we cannot reach that world - and Hillary even less likely, although your rant may well be more likely to get through for it is the same madness part of our brain function you use when you spray your hate through the screen.

I do not like Hillary, but listening to her interview in full, leads the listener to understand with some appreciation, all the work she has done. You were correct - she could suspend her campaign, but that is not her point you stupid fool. Unfortunately your brain does not grapple well with complicated thoughts ... consequently you are very attracted to Obama, and defensive of him, for you both share a limited skill set.

Olbermann, my greatest wish - your program is cancelled and you are removed from the television until after you have had time to recuperate. You need a warm, safe place where you can spend time, take some meds, and recuperate.

Peace Loving Palestinians

Jimmy "hugs and kisses, Israel is the impediment to peace" Carter - pay attention to the following:

Palestinian suicide truck packed with 4.5 tons explosives – most powerful ever – blows up outside Gaza-Israel crossing

May 23, 2008, 10:13 AM (GMT+02:00)

DEBKAfile’s counter-terror sources report that the truck bomb containing 4.5 tons of explosives was the most powerful ever used against Israel - even in the darkest days of the Palestinian terrorist campaign. The explosion occurred early Thursday, May 22, on the Gaza side of the border, 50 meters short of the Erez crossing. It caused no Israeli casualties, but wrecked the border terminal, blasted a big hole in the border wall and shattered windows in Israel buildings.

The bang was heard kilometers away. The truck bomb was followed by a group of Palestinian gunmen in a jeep.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report Israeli forces quickly roped off a large sector outside northern Gaza as a closed military zone, including Netiv Ha’asara and up to Kibbutz Yad Mordecai, to search for possible infiltrators. A second bomb vehicle heading out of northern Gaza was struck by the Israeli air force.

Mortar fire was directed simultaneously at the Sufa crossing to the south. The Palestinians kept up a hail of gunfire, which was returned by Israeli soldiers.

Jihad Islami and a Fatah faction claimed the attacks. Israel briefly closed the Sufa crossing through which the Gaza population has been supplied daily with basic commodities.

Overnight, Hamas announced that the truce talks taking place in Egypt for an informal ceasefire with Israel in the Gaza Strip had ended without results. The Hamas negotiators have returned to Damascus.

During the week, armed Palestinian buffeted the border fence in an effort to force Israel to climb down on its conditions for a ceasefire and demand the abducted soldier Gilead Shalit’s release be incorporated in the deal.

Hamas demanded the release of 350 jailed terrorists “with blood on their hands”, whereas Israel offered 72.

Hamas sought the immediate end of the Gaza blockade, while Israel agreed to open the crossings after the truce took hold.

*********************************

A truck with 4.5 tons of explosive
An attack on Israel from the Egyptian side (recall the tens of thousands of Palestinians who broke through the barrier between Egypt and Gaza and have in turn used the incident to permit their actions against Israel from the Israeli side).
An attack on Israel from Gaza at a crossing where 1 Israeli soldier was wounded
An average of 10 rocket attacks INTO Israel FROM Gaza since 2005 when Israel LEFT Gaza.

I suppose those are the actions of people who want peace. It takes a lot Jimmy to plan the above - weeks, even months. Impediment to peace? As long as one member of Hamas lives and does not refute what their organization stands for, they are the impediment to peace, as are you Jimmy.

Do you want peace?

Do the Palestinians want peace?

I think we all do.

STOP rocket attacks into Israel.
STOP attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians
STOP blowing crap up.

Do those 3 things and within 4-6 years you will have a state of Palestine.

Don't do those 3 things and you will never get a state of Palestine, but you will get a lot of dead people. Many innocent of any crime, but believing in an ideal.

It may not be all you dreamed of (the state you get) BUT it is a start, and from that point you can negotiate, and demand, and obsess ... but get a country first, then ask for more bits.

Yasser Arafat came very close to accepting Oslo - but for Jerusalem. SO ... accept the same conditions Yasser refused, and when you have a country - negotiate Jerusalem. You can't go backward at that point, only forward.

Anything less than accepting the conditions, and moving forward in peace, is really a demand for the status quo - death and destruction.

Income and Weath

The Democrats have been chomping at the bit over Cindy McCain's tax returns. She has stated she will never ever ever release the records. She just did.

We have also learned that under a prenuptial agreement, everything is separate with the McCain's, unlike the Obama's and Clinton's where it is share and share alike. Ms Clinton just loaned herself another $6 million.

We now know how much Cindy McCain made in 2006 - total income of more than $6 million. She paid more than $1.7 million in taxes.

Together she and John McCain made less than Hillary loaned herself in the last six months.

Obama says his Cuba policy is based on 'Libertad'

MIAMI - Sen. Barack Obama, who once said he would meet Cuban leader Raul Castro without preconditions, added Friday that he would do so "only when we have an opportunity to advance the interests of the United States and to advance the cause of freedom for the Cuban people."

Any meeting would occur "at a time and place of my choosing," the likely Democratic presidential nominee told an audience of Cuban-Americans that applauded his remarks.

**************************************

Do you understand that the difference between - no preconditions and what he presented as his new policy of libertad - not a thing.

Imagine the following:
Obama: Hello Raul, I would like to meet with you, no preconditions - let's just sit down and negotiate. I'd like to promote the interests of the American people and would hope you would be receptive to greater freedom in Cuba, but let's talk. Talk is important.

The imaginery conversation satisfied the - no preconditions yet also included the obligatory position Obama must feel - end the sanctions and embrace Cuba, it is 30 years late, even if I must lie to the Cubans in Florida to get their vote, and he knows he is lying when he says he will present the interests of the Cuban people.

Silly rabbits, he's lying through his teeth, or he is just naive.

Discuss, Debate, Opinion, Facts

I believe in a God, a good thing to believe, I think, but I am more than willing to hear the argument for the opposing side and or be questioned on why I believe what I do. If I am not willing to be questioned, if I fear being mocked or ridiculed for my beliefs, then I have to wonder how strongly I believe what I believe. Are my beliefs simply those accoutrement I keep around unless it becomes too complicated or burdensome.

If I believe UFOs exist and I refuse to engage someone in debate or discussion because I fear looking silly or my words twisted, how will I ever test what I believe. Do I need to, or am I certain I am right - just like the known world and their belief in the 14th century that the world was flat. How do you know what you believe is accurate if you refuse to be questioned about what you believe? You simply believe what you do regardless? Makes sense - like believing in fairies regardless of reality.

Why is it fine for a professor to lam bast the president, attack the military, and accuse the US of malicious and vile acts - and no one questions him. Yet, question economic policies or the ineptitude of democratic candidates and you have become too extremely right-wing to talk to or engage in debate out of fear your words get twisted or you look silly.

I believe some people find it too difficult and they avoid the discussion. They would prefer (I think) to argue emotionally and with feelings, then to consider any of the issues rationally. I do not have the answer to the resolution of this issue, but I do know it is an issue, and anyone at any time should feel free to raise the issue and discuss it - but, stand ready to be cross-examined, for you do not get to accuse the United States of monstrous acts, and get away with it just because that is how you feel, nor because that is how your other professor feels or the NY Times or Moveon.org feels. At one time, everyone felt the earth was flat.

I feel like a headache, but I don't blame you.

Ecuador - Insight into America

Rafael Correa made a stunning announcement to his local media (state controlled media) late Wednesday - The United States is too racist to elect Obama. That he (Correa) knows American society, and that Hillary will defeat McCain. he added that he was closer to Obama's views than to Hillary or McCain.

Correa studied in the US, at the University of Illinois. He received his doctorate in economics. he went back to Ecudaor and he is now their president.

The international police agency INTERPOL recently stated publicly, with certainty, that the computers Colombia found after their attack in to Ecudaor to kill a FARC leader contained genuine and real documents. Those documents implicate Correa in aiding and funding FARC against the government of Colombia. They also implicate Hugo Chavez - Correa's friend. The evidence is enough to indict him, and in any American court room, would be enough to get a circumstantial conviction on just the evidence they have now. Correa is tied to terrorism and support for attacks against a foreign government, and he is telling Ecuadorans that he 'knows American society.'

He sure knows a lot for a thug, in violation of international law, complicit in terrorism, and murder. Not innuendo nor opinion, but based upon the facts the international police agency uncovered.

Is this a government we should apologize to Senator? Is this one of those countries we have alienated Senator?

Torture

According to recent disclosures in a Justice Department audit -

- constant cell changes meant to disrupt prisoners' rest and lower their resistance to interrogations.

- routinely are blasted with loud musicincluding the one in Meow Mix cat-food commercials and "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" by the heavy-metal band Drowning Pool.

- threats to send detainees to countries thought to use torture.
Ex. One Guantánamo prisoner was taken on a long boat ride meant to trick him into believing he'd been handed over to another government.

- sleep deprivation or disruption
Ex: one Uighur detainee claimed that the night before his interrogation by Chinese officials he was awakened at 15-minute intervals the entire night and into the next day and also claimed that he was exposed to low room temperatures for long periods of time and was deprived of at least one meal.

- prolonged shackling

- stress positions

- isolation

- use of bright lights

Torture, like that used on: James Brandon, Keith Maupin, Kenneth Bigley, Nicholas Berg, Paul Johnson Jr, Kim Sun-il, Daniel Perle, Tom Fox. My guess, and it is JUST a guess - they would prefer shackling, mising one meal, isolation, bright lights, sleep deprivation, loud music, to the fate each suffered. They had no lawyer nor appeal, no doctors, no cooks, no right to visitation.

The argument is, the US holds itself to standards, they do not. That is exactly the answer - you cannot defeat them by hugging them. If you believe you can, you are an absolute fool who should immediately leave on a goodwill mission to Afghanistan and watch which leaves you first - your political ideology, or your life.

A Year

Time is such a pain. We want it to go by quickly, at times, but not so quickly at other times. When we have to sit through a most boring lecture, time should speed forward 4x, but when we are sleeping and satisfied, we would like time to move ever so slowly.

You have 24 hrs to live - too soon/not enough time.
You have a presentation to give in 24 hrs - too soon.
You must sit through eight hours at the jury room at the court - way too long.
Go to the dentist for a filling that takes 45 minutes - way too long.
Hiring process, could take two to three months - forever but too soon.
Tenure once hired - four years - way too long.

Time it takes to get from home to hospital - 5 minutes - seems like forever in an emergency
Giving a presentation that is going well - time left 5 min - time goes too quickly.
Court case and you are awaiting sentencing - one month - way too soon.
The Sentence after the court case - eighteen months - seemingly a lifetime.
Being pregnant - 9 months - seems like forever until the 9th month is up.

A class that is exciting and interested, 1.5 hrs - goes by too quickly.
A class that is lacking excitement or life, 1.5 hrs - worse than the dentist.
The primary season - (8 months) has gone on forever.
Once one of them is elected - 4 years - is forever.
Taking the LSAT - 3 hrs - forever.
Going to law school - 3 years - forever.
Police officer stopping you to ask you a question - 2 minutes - forever
a kiss - 2 minutes - a nanosecond.

Time is relative and we forget what is more important in living the life we lead - not so much getting from A to B as quickly or painlessly as possible, but living the life that gets us from A to B and learning from the process. What we think of during the nanosecond, 2 minutes, 3 years, 4 years, 8 months, 1.5 hrs ... is up to us - and not forgetting would be helpful.

Showtrial - Congress is the donkey

Guantánamo ex-detainee tells Congress of abuse

By Mariah Blake Correspondent of The Christian Science Monitor
from the May 22, 2008 edition

Bremen, Germany - In a landmark congression-al hearing Tuesday, former Guantánamo detainee Murat Kurnaz described abuses he said he endured while in US custody – among them electric shock, simulated drowning, and days spent chained by his arms to the ceiling of an airplane hangar.

Lawmakers were also provided with recently declassified reports, which show that US and German intelligence agencies had determined as early as 2002 that Mr. Kurnaz had no known links to terrorism. Still, he was held for four more years.

Kurnaz's testimony to Congress, via videolink, as well as a report released Wednesday showing that FBI agents were troubled by the harsh interrogations at Guantánamo, are the latest signs of growing concerns in the United States about the prison camp, which has become emblematic of what many around the world see as American excess in the war on terrorism.

Nowhere was the disquiet more evident than in lawmakers' responses. Politicians on both sides of the aisle, who had once accepted Pentagon assurances that those held at Guantánamo were the "worst of the worst," reacted with outrage and regret to Kurnaz's statements, which were broadcast from his hometown of Bremen, Germany.

Rep. William Delahunt (D) of Massachusetts, who chaired the hearing, said Kurnaz's account – denied by Pentagon officials – was something "every patriotic American should find repugnant."
Even Dana Rohrabacher, a stalwart Republican and defender of the Guantánamo prison system, voiced concern, saying, "It could be after seeing those buildings go down and 3,000 of our people were slaughtered, we moved so quickly that some mistakes were made.... The documents seem to indicate mistakes were made in this case."

Among the documents given to lawmakers is a May 2003 report from Brittain Mallow, the commanding general at the time of the Criminal Investigation Task Force, a Pentagon intelligence unit that interrogates and collects information on detainees. It notes, "CITF is not aware of evidence that Kurnaz was or is a member of al-Qaida."

Another memo, from German intelligence agents who interrogated Kurnaz under CIA supervision in 2002, reads, "USA considers Murat Kurnaz's innocence to be proven."

'Innocent' but not set free

The papers are only the latest batch to surface in Kurnaz's case, where the record clearly shows that he was repeatedly designated an enemy combatant despite evidence of his innocence.

Much of the testimony given by Kurnaz, the first former Guantánamo detainee to appear before Congress, focused on his treatment at Kandahar Air Base in Afghanistan, where he was taken after being arrested in Pakistan in December 2001. While there, he said was subjected to "water treatment," which involved having his head dunked in a water-filled bucket. "They stick my head in the water and at the same time they punched me in the stomach so I had to inhale the water," he said, using English he picked up in detention.

Kurnaz, dressed in a black satin pinstriped suit and seated next to his lawyer, also claimed he was routinely beaten, subjected to extreme temperatures, and chained by his arms to a ceiling, adding that "the pain from this treatment was beyond belief."

Having grown up in Germany, which was schooled in the rule of law by the US, he said he "couldn't believe Americans would do these kinds of things."

Commander Jeffrey Gordon, a Pentagon spokesman, refused to comment on his treatment, but said in a written statement, "The abuses Mr. Kurnaz alleges are not only unsubstantiated and implausible, they are simply outlandish."

The Bush administration has repeatedly insisted that those held at Guantánamo are enemy combatants that pose a threat to the US. Earlier this month, for example, a former detainee from Kuwait was found to have participated in a suicide bombing in Iraq.

Why he was kept for four more years

Two months into his detention, in February 2002, Kurnaz was moved from Afghanistan to Guantánamo.

In September of that year, three German intelligent agents were invited to the island to interrogate him under CIA supervision.

According to transcripts of testimony they later gave before Germany's parliament, the US and German intelligence agencies agreed that there was no evidence of links to terrorism and cleared him for release. But German officials, wary of looking soft on terrorism after a Hamburg cell was found to have played a key role in the 9/11 attacks a year earlier, blocked his return.

Apparently as a result, Kurnaz stayed at Guantánamo for another four years. The Pentagon summary from his August 2004 tribunal proceedings show that the key charge against him was that he was "a close associate with, and planned to travel to Pakistan with" a man named Selcuk Bilgin, who, the Pentagon claimed, "later engaged in a suicide bombing."

These allegations turned out to be untrue: Mr. Bilgin is living in Germany with his wife and children, and has never been charged with any crime, according to German police.

It has since come to light that at least three classified documents in Kurnaz's Pentagon file pointed to his innocence, but because detainees do not have access to classified evidence, he had no way of knowing this.

Pentagon support for his detention

US District Judge Joyce Hens Green, who delivered a 2005 ruling on Kurnaz's claim, and those of 62 other prisoners challenging the legality of the Combatant Status Review Tribunals, found that Kurnaz's case was an illustration of the "fundamental unfairness" of the system, particularly its reliance on "classified information not disclosed to the detainees." (Much of the ruling was itself was classified until recently.)

Kurnaz was finally released in August 2006 after Angela Merkel took over as German chancellor and personally pressed his case with President Bush.

The Pentagon maintains that it was justified in holding Kurnaz. "We have a significant amount of information, both classified and declassified to support his detention," Commander Gordon said. Noting that many of the documents related to Kurnaz's case are heavily redacted, he added, "It would be misguided to draw a whole picture based on bits and pieces of information."

But members of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee, which hosted Tuesday's hearing, are calling for an investigation.

Key exhibit in Supreme Court review

While Kurnaz's case has only recently gained wide attention in the US, he has long been a household name in Europe, particularly in Germany, where – as in many other nations – there are deep misgivings about Guantánamo.

A 25-country poll by the BBC World Service and GlobeScan found that 69 percent disapprove of the prison and of US treatment of detainees. [NOTE: I guess because a poll is taken we should immediately change what we do, given that they all know so much more than we do about everything, including the true facts of what happens in Guantanamo. 90% of those polled think the Chinese government should stop being communist. 12% of those polled believe Elvis is alive. 14% of planet earth thinks Christinaity and Judaism are flawed and we should all become Muslim. 100% of planet earth thinks it is wrong to murder innocent people. 43% think there are aliens. 21% think there is a sasquatch. In several countries of the world - over 50% believe in witches. ]

A growing number of US lawmakers have been calling for the camp to be shut down. Opponents warn that doing so could return terrorists to the battlefield.

The outcome of the debate may hinge, in large part, on the findings of the Supreme Court, which is currently weighing a challenge to the legality of the Guantánamo Tribunals – a case in which Kurnaz is emerging as a key exhibit.

The former detainee hopes his testimony on Capitol Hill will help tip the scales. "I hope they will take it seriously and close the place down," he told the Monitor. [Note: I am sure he does. Very much.]

Get those detainees, move them into prisons on American soil - with a population open to their dogma. Putting at risk entire counties if their friends should come to ask for their release. The lives of millions of Americans is at greater risk with their presence in our communities.
